So with the stock 150 top end, it takes the short plug? I just saw that in my Paxton book and was surprised, I thought it would be an ES plug like the P200, not an HS plug.

Cleaned up the front drum, removed bearings. Can I just sand this rust from the brake surface?

It's like the transmission side is new from the factory and the combustion side was in a swamp.

As found, in the picture. But I agree, probably sat with no carb or something. The plug came out easy, those threads not trashed by corrosion. No cowl still not enough to create this.

Suggestions on cleaning the cases? Scotch brite and wd40? We have some freedom anywhere other than bearing surfaces or sealing surfaces, and those are ok anyway.
The case bolts have some rust on the shoulders, should I discard them or clean it up and reuse with anti seize or grease? Studs came out of the case ok but one stripped on the head side with the double nut trick. Probably 4 new ones there. |

Yes this exactly. I use those same soft sanding wheels. They are more like a scotch-brite wheel, than a sanding drum. Different colors for different grits. Works wonders on Alum.
Kerosene or Diesel is a good degreaser and works well on alum. Or just have the suckers Vapor Blasted. qascooter wrote: I like to hit the big stuff like you're doing above, and also with 0000 steel wool. Yeah I toyed with trying it. It's probably possible but then I realized - "why????" I'm going to trade some Stella bits with mjrally for missing pieces of this engine. The clutch basket is also shot, but overall it's much better than anticipated.

Successful afternoon of horse trading with the awesome mjrally.
Used LML 150 top end with new piston, used crank, used clutch basket, spare cover, and some bits for the VBB |

sdjohn wrote: Yikes It came out quite well. I covered the sealing surfaces and was careful not to overdo it on the rotary pad. Soda blasting didn't work that well on that much corrosion. I wouldn't normally bead blast an case but since it is a small engine with no oil galleries, it's possible wash out all the blasting debris. I went over it lightly with wd40 and a red scotchbrite pad to give it the right surface texture. |

I'm confused on the clutch baskets. The one in the bike is smaller in diameter than the 6 spring version I snagged from MJ. Do I need to stick with the smaller version?

Can I put a px kick start quadrant in an early engine and use an early 2 port engine in a px? I'm not sure I want to yet, just thinking…

Yes they are nice. I didn't want to go crazy polishing, just to be rid of the corrosion. I made sure to go extra easy on the rotary pad.

That looks awesome. You cleaned that all up a lot more than I would have.
As to the kick start, there's lots of options for older-style curved levers on P motors, but nothing to go the other way. I guess there's not a lot of folks putting 2-port motors in PX's. |

yeah I'm still deciding what motor goes where.
I know now that the Stella engine in the PX will get the Stella top end I just got from mjrally, which will let the PX get the Piaggio 150 top end that is on the Stella. That way the ports match the holes (small and big).... But the 2 port motor might go in the vbb with a 2 port Pinasco. or maybe not, because I already have a rebuilt Stella motor. The PX should probably get its own engine back, eventually. |

Fork building day. Not many pics. Cleaned up some red overspray on the fork with 400 grit. The backing plate and hub rebuild was fine. The brake shoes were too wide at the pivot and needed filing to get the clip on. Smashed 2 speedo gears assembling it and then remembered it's probably better to put them in afterwards.

I didn't want to press out the pin for the link, and I saw a scooterwest video saying you can superglue cut o-rings there. Only one was bad, so I decided to try it. Total fail. The new rings need to be stretched just to make it around, so getting glue to set under such tension was impossible. I tried shrink wrap with those o-rings, but still too hard to manage. A plumbing O-ring of same thickness but bigger overall diameter did the trick, with the shrink wrap. Sorta bodgy but will work.
