My other idea was a t5 tray for the top of the glove box to add another black accent there. I think that would do it. Got one Greasy?

Big rust removed, floor reshaped to fit a rail and have a flat spot where the stand was pulling it out of shape.
Yeah that's a pretty good tear on the right but hey, I'm learning and it was trashed. Good thing the floor rail will hide it ![]() I did get things shaped much more like a regular floor but without the mat it would not be show worthy at all. ![]() ![]() ⚠️ Last edited by sdjohn on UTC; edited 1 time

Fast etch done. Doing only top side today. Rails will have to wait for the bottom side to be finished, but I will try out the reinforcement plates for the center stand.

Home depot should have it. Cut in 3" lengths. Drill holes before cutting, so it doesn't dance on you with a drill. Rubber underneath: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K7JFXAA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 BTW the SIP plates gascooter used, with hooks for cargo, are very awesome. |

I ordered these from SIP, they should do it. But someone was suggesting fender washers be added somehow and I lost track of who or why.

The outer rails are so mangled that I'm glad I saved the rails from the Stella. The mat doesn't cover the outer rails, so they can't look like total ass.

Actually, the stand needs the "special" spring plates that keep it in contact with the mounting brackets and not the floor…

I forgot how slow that Owatrol oil is to dry. 24h is not even close. I had to get this thing out of the center of my garage, so the Mrs. can park in there. Had to shuffle it to the side and set up again. Any easy ideas for how to make an impromptu side stand while I continue to work on the bottom? It need not be pretty, but I don't want to bend the floor doing something dumb in the meantime.

Just get yourself a big ol' block of wood like Scott did. Bonus points if you ride it like that and just take the block with you.

It's funny how something as small as an improvised side stand can change your whole work flow. I just realized I should have brought my center stand to work for sand blasting and painting today. Since I can get by without it on for a while, I can proceed directly to floor repairs on the bottom instead of reinstalling it until I get time to do the next steps. This is kind of a big deal, because I'm not sure when that next chunk of time to attack the bottom side will come - it's kind of a 1/2 day thing at least to clean the bottom, fast etch it, and coat it.

After four days, the owatrol oil is dry to the touch.
Cleaned up my rusty center stand and shot some primer on it. Didn't go nuts making it perfect, it's a low visibility item. New matte black for it tomorrow. Then back to the floors soon. |

today's tasks:
diagnose 2 rear signals not working but were OK up to the cowl connection. result: one side had a dead LED bulb that crumbled when I took it out. the other side had a wire detached from the signal housing. scrub the floors on the bottom in prep for fast etch and owatrol oil. go dig at the one spot of potential rot. it could be worse - it's through the outer layer and it got bigger than it appeared but aggressive poking does not go through. now how to address? I'm leaning towards fast etch, then prime/fill/paint this tiny area (it's out of sight). there is no way in hell the floorboards will be replaced and I have no welder or welding skills. way back near the beginning I posted some tunnel pics - it's solid from the back side as far as you can see. I don't think this is one to panic about. It need not be the perfect fix, it simply has to keep things from getting worse. ![]() |

Did someone say tunnel?!?
I sort of lost track of where this bike fits into your plans, but looks like you are just getting it together as a runner, not a museum piece. So, I think you're good doing the wire wheel, rust treatment fiber glass filler thing. I don't remember if you treated/painted the inside of the tunnel, but the moisture/rusting will put pressure on the repair from the inside out so sealing it from the inside would help. I don't think that area is really structural so no worries with fiberglass. If you were paying mucho bucks to have it resprayed, I would say to do it differently. A quick fix might last for ages and if not, a quick redo and some rattlecan and your on your way again. Sometimes less is more especially if you just want it to go down the road. Sorry for overthinking your question. |

Yeah it's a runner bike that I will probably sell on, it's definitely not going the show bike route. It will be priced accordingly. It's interesting because there are clearly 2 layers of metal here, but I can't picture the structure behind it. The surrounding metal is solid.
