in the engine? or in the engine stand? or in the haystack of tools?
these all require different levels of curse words...

So it's one of those days…
The thick clutch spacer left the clutch too high and the cover standing proud. Thin it is. Had to take it apart and swap it. The arm swings only a couple degrees before the plunger hits the pressure plate. I think it has to be correct. ⚠️ Last edited by sdjohn on UTC; edited 1 time

I'd guess 98, but there are two ways to know for sure:
1) measure it with a bore micrometer 2) fuck around and find out The choice is up to you. |

This seal isn't right but I'm not sure what I need. Corteco 30 47 6. Is too big for the sealing surface on the drive flange.

Yep.. thats what I do. I search on SIP with original part number to grab the fastener size. If its something I can order from McMaster then I do.

OK so SM is the only place that seems to have these, but they don't now....
I have 3 of the bolts, I'm sure I can figure out another bolt, but can I use an ordinary lock washer with loctite as the 4th "tab thing"? |

So in goes the next order for mercato. It got easier once I decided that anything they didn't have I'd do SIP order from them and I'll just wait until the whole deal shows. This project isn't a race, the frame is still in the rafters! Once the engine is done we will build a fork.

So I've been following the fork threads lately and looked back at my pics, is this an Allstate fork? I see no shock mounts.

Why on earth someone decided "nah, we don't need a shock absorber, a spring is good enough"
Or am I just too European to understand |

The reason is simple. Sears told them to make it as cheap as possible, so they did away with luxuries like shocks, speedo's, etc.

This VBB is going to be such a mash up, it will be fun.
-VBB not SEA frame -SEA cowls, fender, headset -Allstate fork -Bajaj sprint engine with 23/65 primary for 8" -saddle seat with white cover When I sorted the parts, I kept at least 2 of everything I had doubles on, assuming I'd use the better one for the build. But now that I've decided not to paint, I'm keeping the better of each one as a solid spare, so long as each is usable. End result will be a mechanically new but very mixed heritage bike.

I have been thinking on if I have to paint the cowls/fender/headset just to keep it from having eau de bodge. I'm undecided. I will grab tunnel photos just to have them in case anyone doubts the provenance. Allstate fork is almost a guaranteed "not a bodge" flag, as is the Bajaj engine instead of a P / LML. No 10's and no flash are in my favor.
So long as those in the know can call it a USA / farmer bodge I'm down. |
