whoa this is awesome. Ive always used the trailtech tto gauges but hate that they arnt back lit. This one is backlit, is it ALWAYS on and green until the battery runs out? Or how does it know when to light up? Or can you turn it on and off? I tried to figure it out on the amazon page but couldnt figure it out. I ride at night pretty often (unfortunately) and this would be so much better than the trail tech ones and half the price!

It's supposed to somehow be "smart" about when it is or isn't backlit, but in my experience, it's pretty dumb. By default, you have to press a button and it lights up for a few seconds, but you *can* force it on. I don't recall how off the top of my head. Someone (QA or FridayMatinee, maybe) said it chews through the battery really fast with the backlight on.

I have a little tiny night/red LED that's intended for lighting up cockpit gauges that I use with mine. It runs off bike power and just shines on it. Doesn't work as well, but the gauge is still readable and it doesn't chew up the battery.

The sender for the run leader cht is kinda big and doesn't fit in the machined area. Maybe needs to be spaced up using a crush washer?

That's yet another reason I hate under plug senders.

I view them as a necessary evil when in-head senders aren't an option.

So I go out with my new setup and it's hard as hell to read my sensor where it is, but it never goes above 225f. I'm rolling some hills and it's all good and I think let's go uphill in 3rd at high rpm. Seizes. Won't restart. Look down and the plug lead is off. Then I see the cover bolt is missing for the long nut on the head. I put the lead back on and go to go home but the cover keeps pushing the lead off the plug. That lead should be tight, but it's definitely not.

I drop to 112 main and put on a better plug lead. (Note to self no more cheapie plastic ones!) It runs clean now and still cool. I think the lead has been loose and may have been causing misfire at high rpm, and then the mix burns in the exhaust, heating up the exhaust side of the piston. Even at 112 main I can't see how this thing gets hot enough to seize, so 110 should probably be safe. I'm sure the atomizer is a good move though, the temp is pretty flat across the throttles.

I should probably pull the head but it's running good now and I am thinking I found the issue.

And now my floorboard rivets rebelled, so I did some hick repairs because I don't care.

Lame sensor read location. 0 stars, do not recommend. Sun renders it useless.

I cut a piece of dry wall corner bead and velcro the sensor to that then use that screw at the top of the fork tube to install it. So it's right behind the headset basically. Just a little lower than the speedo. I'll see if I have a picture of it.

Well hello there sir!

That floor repair is bodgetastic and I dig it! Andre approves. Obey.

PS - Does anyone else think we should rename this thread "The life and times of Johnny Mule" ?
