Had an unusual situation today where I was trying to get off a jammed hiway off ramp so I was idling and stop and go for a good 10 minutes in 90 deg heat. Can someone confirm if this is abnormal under my conditions for the scoot to get that hot - two ticks below max? Like I said I can’t confirm if fans were on so just wanting to see if someone with working fans have ever seen the temps go up that high? I broke all sorts of laws trying to get off that ramp and up a one way street to get some air. Cooling on my vespa always worries me. Just had my 2nd maintenance or whatever the first big one is so the vespa should be in good shape. It’s a 2013 GTS 300 Super
You will have no doubt when the fan comes on, it’s loud and I was momentarily startled when mine came on the first time. I would think your fan would have cycled on at least one time under those conditions. Your temperature gage is approximately where mine was when it’s time for the fans.
Seems like my fans have kicked in much earlier in the past. But I can’t recall exactly where they should kick in. I just did a test and I let the temp rise about 3 notches away from max and no fan. Maybe they’ll kick in higher? Also took a peek at the coolant level and I can’t really see any red juice thru the container. Didn’t want to open since it was hot so maybe there not even coolant in there. Who knows what the shop did on the last maintenance. I drove it twice since then. Will check when she cools down. If you all can confirm where the fans should be kicking in it will help me troubleshoot
So in this video (near the end) Robot indicates the fan comes on pretty high on the gage. He makes a good case for bleeding the coolant system. You might want to add fluid and bleed just to be sure.
the fan usually kicks on at just a tick over 3/4 and brings it down toward about 1/2
so I really wouldn't be concerned.
but like cosmos said, you'll know when the fan kicks.
if you haven't done any cooling system maintenance, definitely do so. flush and fill at the minimum and a new thermostat is cheap insurance. if it's not huffing or losing water you should be good there.
