Met a guy at the Vespa parade a few weeks back. I went on his 35 mile ride to lunch today. It was fun and I met some nice local Vespa folks. None of this will surprise any of you. You might be surprised that I was surprised.
The leader rode a vintage Vespa. It had 125 t.s on the back fender. It was pretty loud. It smoked and had genuine fumes. Once it died at a light. The guy got off and kick started it back to running. So no electric start! Shocking. I asked and he was shifting too! It sounded very cool. He said shifting done from the handle bar. One other vintage shoot which also sounded real.
And then, a family of 4. All on modern Vespas. The mom and dad and one teen were not wearing helmets. I’m a cyclist. I don’t ride on my driveway without a helmet.
And lunch was great. Met people from different parts of the country. Everyone was nice and welcoming. Everyone rode safe. Great group. None of the stuff above was anything new…except to Mr Nube. The Vespa journey continues. Fun!
