New member with eyes on GTS - thanks in advance for input. Two questions:

When is it typical for each model year to be released?

Are any changes (other than colors) expected for the 2022 GTS models?

I currently ride a Triumph Bonneville but have always wanted a Vespa... it's time. Trying to figure out whether to go after 2020 remaining inventory; 2021 with the current $500 discount being offered to select categories; or wait for something brand new. Would welcome input as to how much "wheeling and dealing" dealers are typically willing to do for a cash buyer.

Thx

There's loads of good info in the Wiki:
FAQ: How negotiable is the price of a modern Vespa?

The 'model year' is purely a North American construct. The production run for the NA market 'model year' (which is separate from the Pontedera normal continuous production) seems to be usually after mid-summer the previous year.

The difference between 19-20 was major (new engine, sleeker legshield styling, LED lighting). 20-21 was minor (rim restyling, a few new paint choices).

The 20 was my first Vespa, so I don't have the long history that other members have, but I wouldn't expect major changes for 22: the last major upgrade was only two years ago; plus, the pandemic wreaked major havoc on manufacturing.

22s could be announced in the coming months, but the equipment will likely be very similar to the existing HPE. Up to you if you want to wait and see if you can negotiate a deal on a new-old-stock model, but there's been a shortage. It may be hard to find an new-old model, and the seller may not be inclined to give you a deal.

Welcome TheMayor! (That does sound a little odd that way )

Probably just color changes for 2022. And with inventory replenishment being what it is, dealing may be difficult beyond a slight discount to dealer “prep”. Then again, 2022 may actually bring a slight increase in price. Something else to consider.
Good luck with the shopping. It’s a great scoot!

I’ll go farther: based on past history, it will be years before we see substantial model changes in the GTS.

First off: Welcome to MV, TheMayor!

Next: As others have said, Piaggio/Vespa doesn't do the 'Murican "model-year" thing, which to me is a good thing: they tend to make changes when/if there's relatively good reason to do so. It helps that Vespas generally enjoy healthy sales worldwide, so the need for constant "refreshing" is kept to a relative minimum.

When I bought my 2015 GTS300 Super, that model year (2014 for the rest of the planet) saw a somewhat substantial change in terms of powertrain, front suspension, and instrumentation. There would be minor nips-n-tucks over the next several years (except for another change in the front suspension, which is more involved than I care to get into right now), but the big change came with the introduction of the HPE engine for the 2020 model year. The essence of the bike, however, is pretty much the same.

Just a thought on the cash buyer idea...you may be well served to order online and take advantage of the $250 accessory credit for booking through Vespa directly. You should also still be able to do the $500 rebate with that route as well if you are eligible.

From little intellugence I got it appears just few new color schemes and different trim styles are expected for 2022 GTS. The all-new GTS has been in the works for some time but apperas still just curbed to the design studio, keeping tight-lipped.

The current GTS is a long production model going back to 2003 with few nips and tucks made along the way but in essence has been pretty much unchanged for close to 20yrs now. So don't ecpect much to change in the new year, Covid had also put a damper on its development, too.
