Hello!

I have a Vespa Super VBC and I'm planning to upgrade the clutch to SIP Cosa 2 Ultrastrong.

But that clutch is a beast so I need a new clutch cover of the 200cc.

This one:

There are some vintage SS clutch covers selling in my area.

Can I just pop one of these on the top of the SIP clutch without grinding?

Someone else can say for sure (I don't have a VBC), but I believe you'll need to grind both the oil guides on the cases and the cover to install that clutch.

Is your old clutch a six or seven spring?

It takes a little grinding. Gotta get rid of the channel (with a stock p200 cover)

The cover 100% has to be ground or replaced with a 200cc cover.

It's a requirement when installing a Race version of the Cosa 2 clutch. The Ultrastrong version doesn't require this according to my research (but I'm not necessarily right)

But if the case have to be ground I'll grind the cover, too.

I put a BGM CR80 SuperStrong in my P200 and had to grind both the cases and the cover. Dunno how much it differs from a standard Cosa2 dimensionally, though.

SIP Ultrastrong clutch in my P200 needed the cover ground a bit. Oil guide gone. And a little in the rounded edge of the cover.

There’s a tab protruding in the case at 12 o’clock that needs to be removed. You can grab it with a pair of vise grips and snap it off.

I put a 7 spring LML clutch in a VBC and only had to grind the oil channel in the VBC cover.
Its the best clutch ive ever had.....no slippage under extreme thrashing of a dr 177

however

In neutral there was a slight click as it was pushed around the shed which irked me

So I got the drive cog on the LML clutch ground down to the exact diameter to that of the VBC drive cog ( about 1.5mm off the LML)... that cost $80 (NZ)

after years of accepting some slippage and lurks on tuned vbc cases this amazes me every ride..in fact i have tried to make it slip on the meanest hill i can find and it refuses to let go.

Thanks for your support, I'll grind the cover.

I've found a straightforward tutorial here:

It’s not just the cover that needs grinding. Watch the video. At 10:15 he mentions the “case beam” that “has already been removed” on his engine.

Yes, I saw. Now I'm wondering how to grind it down avoiding entrance of filings into the transmission...... ROFL emoticon

You can tape around it enough to keep them mostly out. If you're still worried, you can flush the area and then change the oil afterwards to get anything that you missed, but honestly, a couple pieces of aluminum swarf aren't going to have an impact on the gearbox other than making the oil glitter a bit the next time you change it.

and keep in mind that when you pull the clutch lever the clutch basket is pushed inward. so the beam in the case must be ground back further than just fitting on assembly. extra 3-5mm is enough.

Grab it with vice grips and snap it off. Takes courage, but works. Tip I learned from the great Rob Hodge.
