I get on the interstate today around noon, 64 North bound near Norfolk, and I notice a slow motorcycle up ahead riding in the center lane. As I get closer and pass in the right lane I see it's a young looking kid on some China big wheel scooter! I'm not kidding, it was called a Speedy 150! Just cruising along at around 55ish mph while all the cars are going 70mph minimum. In our state its 150cc minimum for interstate travel, but having cars ride your butt and zoom past you cannot be fun. I would never take my Liberty on the interstate. Whats the craziest 2 wheel thing you've seen on the interstate? My runner up was passing a guy on a stock Grom while I was on my Burgman 200 on the interstate going to work one day.

Its likely his first bike and he thinks he’s king of the road.
Lets just hope he lasts long enough to upgrade to a nice GTS |

Come to think about it I used to ride a Genuine Buddy 125 on the interstate going to work. A 12 mile trip pretty much wound out. So I'm sure someone in a car was like "Look at that idiot!". But I stayed in the right lane and my Buddy 125 was faster than that kids Speedy 150. I did get stopped one day on my Burgman 200 by a unmarked state trooper. I passed him and got his attention. He thought it was a moped! But it was all good. I get along with law enforcement just fine.

I saw somebody on a 150cc Honda Joker replica on I-81 in Pennsylvania rolling in the right lane. She had people easing past her so she wasn't a big hazard.
I saw another Young Lady one day on a Kawasaki Eliminator 125 on Route 17 but she was moving right along. Obviously no one told her a 125 wasn't big enough. |

On I-4 in Florida for about 30 miles on my Ural doing 55mph in the right lane. No one seemed to mind.
Another time, same interstate on my TW200, 55mph in right lane. Some twat rode my ass for a few miles and yet did not pass me with two open lanes to his left. Then flipped me off as he passed me on the exit ramp we both were using. |

The twat was just hating on the fact that he was in a cage and you had a cool TW! I love T-Dubs!

I take my Liberty on the Interstate almost every day. It's a short run, about 5-6 miles, and I get it up to about 64mph, so I stay in the right lane for the most part. The thing is, here in the NYC area, the highways are typically much slower than in other parts of the country, so if you can do 55 - 60mph, you are fine. In fact, you'll end up passing quite a few people. The big issue is the weight of the Liberty - it gets moved around quite a bit by passing trucks, but it's not so bad. And having the flyscreen for wind protection makes a huge difference.

fledermaus wrote: Yeah, he'd had serious heart probs IIRC. Good guy, pretty strong proponent of freeway riding with his LX as kind of a minority view. But hey, it's legal. Pick your times and it's fine (low traffic, or gridlock you can split through -- and bail out to surface streets if traffic gets too fast and heavy). If your commute or whatever doesn't give you the option of choosing when you're on the freeway, or allow for an alternate route, maybe a 150 isn't what you need. |
