Hello, I just bought a brand new 2020 50cc Vespa Sprint 4t 3v, what modifications you can recommend, to get more speed and fun out of that beautiful i-get engine? Vespa's current top speed is 55 km/h or 35 mph (it's not a limited speed version)

Vejas, welcome to MV!

I can't help you with the mechanical bits but someone will be along soon to answer your questions.

Post some pics of your little jewel. Pictures are like a flame for moths around here, we love 'em.

There's a lot to recommend, mostly from Malossi. But you don't want to void the warranty do you? Save the mods until the warranty period expires would be my first recommendation.

My reference is from LX50's but for me the Malossi variator kit is good for a few mph and better acceleration and then a fly screen is good for a couple more mph on the top end. Not sure what CDI you guys have over there but over here the older 50's benefit from the "un restricted" version. You may already have the good one IDK.

So these three things really changed the LX50 into a pretty decent around towner. Maybe add a upgraded iridium spark plug and light foam air filter? Good luck.

Swapping the air filter for a "high performance" version will likely yield no perceptible improvement. Ditto for the spark plug. Without a big bore kit, a freeflow pipe, and a freeflow air filter those would be "feel good" mods only.

I would normally recommend owners of 50s go for broke with mods, but not if they must void the factory warranty in doing so. Also new 50s are FI. Malossi has a complete replacement CDI/ECU that might be usable without having to go into the engine and do a big bore kit. That would be one suggestion, as it is plug & play and easily reversible. Might need to get a pipe and an air filter to go with, but those two are also easily reversible.

I'd suggest you return the scooter for a 150 if you really want more power. But I suspect that might have its caveats with regard to your locality.

I love my 2V LX50 and I've enjoyed modding it. I have almost every mod available for it; adjustable suspension at both ends, Malossi BBK, Malossi Power Cam, Malossi Multivar, Malossi red sponge filter, found a Termignoni pipe for it on eBay which was a major score, Malossi clutch, SS brake hose. I have come to the conclusion that aside from the enjoyment I got from performing the mods the scooter is still slow and all that money and time spent was kind of a waste in retrospect. My initial feeling was I wanted a 50 because in my locality you can park a 50 on the sidewalks with the bicycles. That is a very valuable convenience. If not for that I would have sought a 150 since I've had a motorcycle license almost my entire life. Now I come to find out that DC Metro doesn't give a flip whether its a 50 or a 300, if its a scooter on the sidewalk they generally don't care. I see people parking their GTS 300s on the sidewalks so obviously they are not being ticketed.

Shoulda gone with a 150.

Thanks for the extra info, I like learning about these fun toys. I am surprised that you say your scooter is still slow but I guess that is all relative. I have the Malossi BBK and cam in my 2V 4 stroke and it is...pretty fast for flat elevation riding quickly up to 50mph indicated. All the roads around me are posted 25-45mph (most being 35) though so since I am keeping up with traffic I don't feel lacking in speed.

I don't enjoy the scooter as much at really fast speeds like going down a large grade (at say 55mph GPS) but then our roads are crap.

It would be terrible if our cops got picky about who uses the sidewalks and bike racks to park but then that is another good thing about being out here...our cops are not into these small details!

^^THAT, except ... you enjoyed the mods. So not really wasted.

I have the Aprilia SportCity 50cc (2009) that shared a lot with the Vespa. The only mods I made were cutting the rev limiter and lighter weights. The CVT mod got me off the line quicker and gave me more oomph pulling out of corners. Removing the rev limiter gave me more top end (pegged at 50), but my gosh it sounds like a die grinder. I backed off on the rollers a little to get back down on revs.

Fun bike, but I'm not going to be racing anyone. Well, I won't be winning, anyway.

I just saw a bumper sticker on the back of a Prius that sums it up. "I can't ... I'm a Prius". Thinking about making one myself.

Big Bore Kit
Variator
CDI
Exhaust

in order of performance improvements. After that, it's diminishing returns, or more money for less improvement.

For me it is, my other two wheeled vehicles are a 2007 Ducati Monster S4R Testastretta and a recent 2020 KTM Super Duke R. I like 'em fast. I use the Vespa to commute to work and the gym and maybe go grab a gallon of milk in a pinch. For those duties it works a treat. It has never let me down either. I give it my respect. It'll do 50 mph or so on a flat, but the speedo has been broken for quite some time so I'm not sure. Haven't velcroed my phone to the cluster yet so I don't have a GPS top speed.

For me the small frame Vespas are where the magic is.

Moto I bought the 3 degree offset key for my 2V LX50 from Scooterpartsco about two years ago and haven't installed it. Will this truly yield an appreciable result or was it a duff buy.

IIRC, the offset key helps at lower RPM, when advanced. This can become a detriment at high RPM, unless you have a CDI that retards ignition enough to avoid pinging.

It's a bigger problem for 2T motors that spin at 11K+ RPM, so YMMV.
