15000 miles. ~$3000.00. Could get a pre-purchase inspection. New tires and battery.

Was this a good model? Too old? Wait for an HPE? Any areas that need careful inspection?

Looks well cared for by mature owner.

I wouldn’t think of another scooter right now unless this was a really good deal and way to have access to a faster scooter when my 150 wasn’t enough. It’s local and looks great.

That’s a bit on the highside.

I mean, think about it. You’re talking about a 15 year old bike with mileage.

2-2.5 sure. But I’d want a full service history. Otherwise you could be looking at a major service coming down the pike.

And make sure the fuel pump recall was done.

Thanks Greasy. This is why I love MV. I’d have never thought of most of this. Fuel pump recall? Who knew!?

Great bike bullet proof. Services records a must as greasy stated. This year was NOT part of the fuel pump recall. For GTS the recall involved 2009s and early 2010s.

Best,

I stand corrected on the fuel pump.

Still demand service records, and I’d go 25 at the most if it’s cherry.

$3000 is way too much for that. Just my opinion, but then again the price is the price, one can ask whatever they see fit, you can bid whatever you see fit & if it works you got a transaction done. I think $1500-$1750 is max I'd be willing to pay for a 2007 model.
I bought a 2010 Vespa GTS 300 in 2011, it had 4700 miles on it for $3100, I sold it in 2020 after putting in 10,200 miles on it for $2750. I had upgraded the shocks to Malossi and replaced the rollers with sliders, but it had a lot of rust in the bottom (below the battery).
Had maintained it well enough except for the rust it ran fine.

I am not sure if the price on this 2007 Vespa GTS 250 is a function of the supposed shortage of PTW and therefore a surge in pricing possibly.
If you aren't in a hurry then wait and the market shall come to you possibly.

If it looks good to you and the inspection shows it to be well maintained and in good shape, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the scooter.

I just rode a 2008 GTS 250 for 990 miles around Wisconsin and Michigan over the weekend.

What a nice scooter.

Anything is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it.

$3,000 might seem high, but there is much joy to be gotten out of that thing before it wears out.

Get the service records sounds like great advice but what does it mean exactly? They will have an envelope full of receipts? They will have a print out from a dealer? What will I be looking for?

I think too high but the GTS is a solid scooter. I purchased two 2006 GTS 250's with 300 miles on each for $4300 for both 3 years ago. I had to replace VR's on both, fuel pump on one, belts and tires but one of them I just rode in Cannonball. Great machine!

Offer cash at $2500, cite rubber aging etc to justify lower. It is a fine machine

If you are used to 50- or 150-cc scooters, the GTS will be a big upgrade.
It will cruise comfortably at ~70 MPH for hours on end, until you just about run out of gas.
$3000 may seem high, but considering all the jacked-up prices for cars both new and used, it's not really a huge surprise to me to see so many scooters' prices very high lately.
That, and you're in Naples, FL, so I'm thinking cost of living is higher than what I'm used to....
To put in perspective, I got my 2008 GTS with ~3000 miles on it for $3900 when I bought it in 2013. From a seller in central Illinois.

Since the one you are looking at has new tires and battery, I'd check the records to be sure the oil was changed periodically, and the first service was done. Beyond that, since there are 15,000 miles on it, it's hard to nail down exactly when the belt, rollers, and sliders are due.

I'm thinking it's worth every penny of $2500, if for no other reason than location.
Smoking deal if you can drop $2k and walk away with it.

At 15,000 miles it definitely should have one belt and roller job in its past and a second is likely coming up soon depending on the actual mileage of the previous job. There should also be records of several coolant and brake fluid flushes in a scooter of this age. Piaggio recommends both every 2 years. Some owners do things like this regularly, others seem to wait for something like this to fail. Better the first kind of previous owner.

Being a previous owner of a 2007 that I put around 40K miles on, I can tell you there was an odd mid year battery swap (neg>positive). depending on which you have, it's easy to purchase the wrong battery and the leads are too short to swap. Several posts here (ancient) of fires due to poorly executed extensions.

There was a factory recall to replace the exhaust header with one with a deflecting collar to keep the exhaust gases (from a failed exhaust bushing) from melting your rear brake cable.

Other than those two, it was bullet proof. (just not fallen tree proof)

Of my three Vespas, a 150, a 250 and a 300 the 250 is my highest mileage one and my favorite one for the road. I think the price is high by at least 500 but if it has had any service it is a great ride.

Last Nov,, I bought my 2014 GTS 300 Super with 7200 miles for $2800.

To me, $4k for a 2006-2007 GTS with 15,000 miles is too much.

Absolutely. I had a 2009 GTS 250, and it was a solid performer. I traded it for a 2020 HPE last fall, mostly for the performance upgrade, ABS brakes, and traction control. I miss having an outside air temp readout and a bar RPM display that were on my 2009. Seems that only Vespa fans know the difference in the models. Take good care of the 2007 and it should give you plenty of miles of good riding.

I think $3k is a bit high for the age and miles, but I'm not familiar with your local market. Finding a Vespa in deep south Texas was like a needle in a haystack - I had to go 350 miles to get to a dealer to buy the new one. If it looks good, runs good, and has the new tires and battery, it's worth something to be out there riding instead of waiting for a better deal to come along.

Good luck with the decisions. Oh, and "up a hill" kinda depends on the hill - I would ride it up the hill, but if it is steep, you may not be able to hold 60mph. In the flats of Florida, you won't have any issue with 60 to 70 mph... as long as the rest of the traffic on the Interstate isn't running 80+ mph.

In Denver here, that scooter would bring close to $4,000. Two years ago you could have bought it for $1,700. The pandemic has made scooters very scarce, and very expensive. If that suits your needs, I'd grab it. Ryan bought a 2012 GTS300 with 4,000 miles for $1800 a little over a year ago. That information means squat. Do a craigslist and FB marketplace for Vespas around you. I'll bet there aren't many.

I think the instrument cluster on that era is far more useful than the more modern GTS's, which tend more to idiot lights. Notably:

- tach
- outside air temp
- right and left turn signal indicators
- engine temp

vs. speedo + aformentioned idiot lights on my '18. The newer ones have ABS if that matters to you.

The risk as mentioned above is the maintenance. The coolant should have been changed a few times (preferably every 2-3 years). If you get the '07 consider proactively changing the plastic worm gear in the front assembly that drives the speedo, cheap part easily replaced, less ideal after it comes apart. And put in a new battery.

The other minor risk is dealing with a scoot with more brittle plastics etc., nice as it looks the brake reservoir covers etc. will all be more prone if not already done to cracked or broken plastics.

I got my '06 GTS for $2k with 6k miles five years ago but think the dealer had no idea what he was selling. But I promptly sank some $ and time into doing a full maintenance.

With a new GTS at what, $7k+ I'd be much more inclined to a good used one at 1/2 or less, my $0.02 and worth it all. I get just as much fun driving either GTS, thought the new one would be way better, it isn't really. FWIW

Way too expensive. Do what Greasy said.

No accessories. I know the consensus here is that accessories have little value for resale. But in case you want to add accessories in the future they will not be inexpensive.

I agree that the price seems on the high side. Unfortunately, that seems to be the current average price for that era scooter. Last year at this time it would probably have been $1000 less. There are better deals still available, but they are few and far between.

I paid £2k ($3K back then) for my 2006

But that was in 2008

It would need to be an absolute low mileage peach for me to pay that price!

Out of interest, how much was a new 2007 GTS?

And the plot thickens….

Not hugely serious but interesting.

The listing for this 2007 GTS says well maintained.

Today I ask, how long have you owned it and has it been serviced by the local Vespa dealer? That would be great I think.

Answer: only owned it two months. “Bought for me by my husband and it’s too strong for me. I have now gotten a 150” and Serviced by Vespa dealer 100 miles away not our local one where I bought my 150.

Plausible I think but so much for getting the maintenance history from the seller. But the good news is that a Vespa dealer saw it very recently. With permission of the owner, I hope to get feedback and what ever history they have.

It’s never dull! I still don’t know if they bought it from that dealer. I hope not.

Thanks Jim. To me half the fun is the game of chase we are playing.

When I bought my 50 in May, I wanted it and got it and had fun. There were a couple gremlins to be sure, but I got an invaluable education and had fun sorting it all out with your help and others.

While I love my Sprint 150, it’s less fun because it’s new and without any Gremlins for me to research and bug you guys about and buy parts to fix.

So I need a few problems to research and fix. Now just trying to make sure they are not disasters. And I have a big advantage with this scooter. I’m happy to “just walk away”. I’m in no hurry.

To be continued.

Yes I would!
Matter of fact, I did! In 2010 with 1500 miles on it.
43k miles and still going strong.

Is a 2016 GTV 300 basically a GTS with more retro styling?

Generally no, this is the strength of a Vespa; the design is "apparently" identical but the accessories, intended as removable parts, change.
For example the instrument panel where in some models you can have a few more functions by paying a little more, or the saddle, the shape of the rims ... little things.

$3k is too high. Nothing special about those old 250s. Only special thing about them are the cooling system issues they all seem to suffer from. Those I've seen go for about $1500 around here, in good shape.
I don't know why but you have a very negative vibe about your comments, which shows up in not only your karma but also your bias.

and, I don't mean to rude here, but you generally come off as bristly.

I don't know if that's like a language barrier thing or what, just, like something I've picked up from your posts.

ANYWAY, you're wayyyy TF off on pricing. you're wayyyy off about cooling system issues and you seem to be kind of jerky in your posts. so cool it? or um, I dunno, not?

have a wonderful day my good friend! or be miserable! really, again, don't care!

(but if you keep being an asshat I'm going to ban you)
