Years ago, the forum used to have the option to open a popup alert when you got a PM. I’ve had it turned off on my own account for years. Maybe over a decade.

I was debating ripping out whatever residual code there is, but... I’m not actually sure it even works any more. So, I know this is kind of a stupid question: has anyone ever actually seen MV open a popup? Most browsers block this anyway, so I’m guessing that even if it worked, none of you have seen one. Which will make the decision to rip out the code even easier.

No, bit safari blocks them anyway.

Unless you tell it not to. But why would anyone do that?

I haven't since the change, but I might not have gotten a message either. Earlier version of Firefox allowed the popup. Not sure about current version.

A popup, no. A fullscreen message, yes. I do most of my browsing on an iPad Pro.

I have had three PMs in 2019, none in 2020 and one in 2021, which I deleted, because it contained an attachment.

Really?!? I must be out of touch.

Had it turned on, but never saw it happen.

Maybe once or twice on one of my computers. Like some others I usually use Safari which blocks them.

They used to come up a lot for me when I logged on and even when I was logged on. But mind you I use the message feature only now and then.

Prior to the big update I had them on Firefox.

Okay, sounds like something I broke along the way.

As we now have a spiffy new mail icon to indicate new messages, and as it sits next to the spiffy new notification icon that indicates new notifications, I am hoping people are getting attuned to that particular attention mechanism. It’s less intrusive than a popup, but still (hopefully) sufficient to notice.

I remember allowing pop-ups for MV years ago. I'm well past what ever computer or browser that was on. But I did get pop-ups.

edit: I just looked at my Chrome browser settings and MV is listed as allowed to send pop-ups and re-directs. So someone send me a PM, I guess?

Oh, no worries. It's broken, but it's apparently been broken for a while, and nobody seems to have missed it.

I used to - but not now, which is absolutely fine with the new icon arrangements - well designed.

I do but the popup gets blocked by chrome. I see the warning that it's blocked though.

A better question, for people who have seen it in the past: is your account currently set to show a popup on new PMs?

I'm not likely to fix this. Much more likely to delete any remnant of it and pretend it never existed.
