how can I tell if coolant has gotten into my oil?

I will be replacing my water pump as soon as the part arrives. Folks had mentioned that there was a possibility that coolant had gotten mixed with the oil.
How do I determine whether or not that had happened?

The oil will be a frothy brown color, like cappuccino. But I’d change the oil anyway.

Coolant in the oil will make the oil look like chocolate milk, or maybe like gravy.
