I'm in the process of getting a cylinder rebored for a 2+ oversize piston and I'm confused about piston clearance and want to get it right...the 2nd time.
History:
The bike in question is a Sears Bludebadge Smallframe. An old iron Malossi 133 kit was installed and it ran find. It was stolen but returned to the previous owner with problems from running without 2 stroke oil. Sat for a while and gained additional problems from not running for years. I picked it up and rebuilt the motor with bearings, seals, and a oversize piston. Couldn't find a good +1 so got a +2. Took piston to a local motorcycle machinist to rebore the cylinder for the piston but he bored it with motorcycle specs. He took measurements from the bottom of piston and also bored only 2 thousandths clearance. Of coursed it locked up and after months of sitting I'm getting it rebored correctly.
Questions:
Is 3.5 thousandths an idea bore for an oversize piston on an aftermarket cylinder?
From my limited research it seems when going oversize, most clearance is around 3 thousandths to 4 thousandths and I'm seeing an avg clearance around 3.5 thousandths. I ask because factory clearance for oversize pistons has a range from over 4 thousandths to over 7 thousandths. That seems a little loose. Need to get this right or go to another type cylinder. In the past I've asked Gick what the correct clearance but he gave me the "don't you know what I do for a living" statement and did not want to assist but did say go with whatever "your local guy says"??? That's strange especially how he promotes going local but did not want to assist when I've directly assisted him in the past https://modernvespa.com/forum/topic171019?highlight=california+sidecar. That's not here or there but does anyone else knows the correct bore clearance for an oversize piston that actually works?
Anyone holding a good CP21 carb they would like to sell before going the new carb route? This 19/19 is a pain in the arse to seal tight but doable and would like something easier but not too large. I still have the small tapered crank on this thing and don't need too much power.
Also, what are my options for a bulb holder for the original light? During the motor seize I took a small spill but I had riding gear on. Bike took the worst with a bent legshield, broken brake lever and broken headlight socket. Can't find one that fits a bluebadge and only see the ones with a extra pilot light which Sears deleted from their models.
Headlight socket like this without the pilot light is needed.
