Hello!

As an Italian we don't use many acronyms so I'm wondering if my guess on these are correct:

NSR - not scooter related
MVFR - Modern Vespa Fried Rice

Also, is the British roundel used for the site a souvenir of the Mod era? I was wondering why using that instead of the Italian one and why using a roundel at all.

Thanks!
Mauro

It's traditional for scooterists to throw fried rice at each other when we meet. It's a sign of respect.
Always always make sure you have some in your pet carrier.

MVFR

is Modern Vespa Forum Related

The roundel is linked to 60’s British mod scene.

And yes, we throw fried rice at people south of the equator for being cheeky.

Wow, great, thanks!

Actually we do throw rice to couples on their wedding day, here in Italy - not fried rice - it's an ancient tradition begun with the Romans, guess if they had a Modern Chariot forum back then...

Fried rice doesn't make the birds explode.

Rice (raw) is launched as a wish for fertility even though I think that given the decrease in the birth rate in Italy, viagra tablets should be launched.

I don't think so ... I think that with "Not so modern" you solve problems immediately (when there are any) but with modern scooters (all of them and not just Vespa) you can go crazy.

MSG... yes or no?

As far as the Mod thing goes yes it's an homage to them. Very few Mods here and I think a few of us were back in the revival period. I was a revival Mod but the burning question is were The Housemartins a Mod band? Sure maybe more power pop but they had soul and were snazzy dressers so I count them in.

the mod thing, whatever. I have 60's suits and combat boots and roll out some mr California's. I'm not one to judge.

is a white horse actually white?

is audioslave actually the best 90's band?

my friend, I do not have answers.

Thank you my friend for trying as they are soul searching questions. Not everything adds up to 42 sometimes.

I was more fishtail, Fred Perry and Clark's but to each their own and all are welcome. I hung with some really interesting folks back then and you'd have fit right in. Actually that depends.. you'd have to think a Ska band named after an abortion rights Dr with a sax player on a unicycle and massive Penis shaped piñata over the pit full of condoms is "normal".

MSG gets a bum rap. It’s not actually bad, and very few people are actually sensitive to it. Far less than the percentage of people who THINK they are sensitive to it.

The association of the mod roundel at MV is more specific. We use the roundel in the spirit of the original mods, whose very name — mods — stood for modern.

It amuses me endlessly that mod revivalism — whether in the 80s or today — entirely misses the very specific point the mods were trying to make. Aping the fashions of an earlier era and riding around on obsolete scooters is the antithesis of modern and, in my opinion, the exact opposite of what the mods stood for.

Parden my massive quote. Typing on an iPhone in the rain. I guess that's modern!

Agreed we were not the same crew as the original "Mods" but everything evolves over time. Modern Ska bands aren't exactly the Skatkelites (sp?) and the Jam not exactly Motown. The thing is have fun and enjoy yourself it's later than you think

it has oft been cited that if 60's mods had had more £££ they would have been driving round in sports cars

if they had have been driving round in sports cars, I wouldn't have gotten into scooters and I now would have loads more £££

We need a new term ... "anachronistic mod". Seems a little oxymoronic. Or just moronic. I dunno. I'm old. My opinion doesn't matter. Pink Floyd rocks.
