Birds are going nuts in the mornings. T-shirt and shorts all weekend. Spring is coming for us down under.

I’d like to blame the crap weather and K61s for not riding. But no… it’s the pos new shiny chrome locks that took me off the road.

The steering lock was working fine… then one day something weird happened and it was stuck locked. The unlock position wouldn’t quite be unlocked anymore and would still catch the stop on the fork.

And then I couldn’t put my key in the new shiny glovebox lock either. Tried everything. Eventually a screwdriver. (I won).

But fixing a steering lock on sportique is is total pitfa…

Lifting these bikes on and off the fork by yourself sucks. Especially with brake cable and speedo cable in…

Traced the lock on paper so I could see how much I moved the flap. Ended up having to hammer the flap flat (to change the angle a just little bit).

Played fishing.

Also… worked out you can leave the lower race in. The steering lock will just fit through on a certain angle…

And finally got it sorted. (Took me three times to refit the fork…)

A lot of work for a small new part. And still not sure why it failed.

Gotta get the headset back on. Bleed the brakes. And hope all the cables are ok…

So great to see the process…

sucks that you had to do it in the first place.

Seems like a case of tight tolerances of after market parts

Bike is WAY cool, just tidy af! Good job on the fix so far too. I like the towels and bubble wrap at your headset support to protect the finish. Clap emoticon

Briliant, make me want to start use a steering lock again same as you Brother PP, there a time back in 2001 when my steering lock jammed while i am on a trafic jam, at that moment i just hit the handlebar to wreck the pin

Since everyone already have a vaccine shot its time to ride the vespa and cheer

All new stuff needs encouragement to fit. Seriously can’t think of anything that hasn’t required some mod to sort. Ironic that mod can mean both modern and modification…

Of course fitting a lock the first time with a bare fork is much easier. My fork and the steering stop on it are custom - pkxl 125 fork.

It actually happened outside the local scooter shop. I was pulling away and the headset suddenly twisted. Then the lock was stuck on. I managed to unlock it by taking the bezel off and pushing the lock in half in on an angle - taped it, straightened the headset then rode home carefully. Guess something bent somehow. Couldn’t tell what when I removed it. Maybe the brass pusher on the lock.

Total ass job to fix. Crossing fingers I’ve sorted it.
