Just about nothing is original. Tell tale signs its an S.E.A. resto, so who knows what terrors lie underneath that interesting paint work and inside the 'new' motor.

The run in sticker is pretty funny.

There's another sticker on there with vespa-scooter.net, which presumably would give info about its origin. But the domain on Web Archive never appears to have had more than a domain parking page.[/b]

I was watching this nice looking project bike. for those who like patina and not repainting. It was at 910 up until the end. ending price is just stupid. market has truly gone crazy.

good god! that Allstate went for that? Non running, not complete, missing parts, no Title. $400-600.

would you be interested in a red Allstate that has been gone all the way through, running, Title, Pinasco 177, Pinasco ignition, PInasco Clutch, Pinasco drums, etc. for about the same price? in other words, turn key. send me a PM as there is a local in Indy that has one that built for him. very nice.

If you watch ebay often you will see a trend. that bike will most likely be relisted next week. the second auction always ends substantially lower. but still ridiculous if it actually sells for anything above 1500. looks like a 500 bike to me too.

I dont know where my proper entrance point to an early scooter is. I like good deals like anybody. but I actually get them often. it just takes watching the market often and having the ability to strike fast . there arent alot of early vespas or lambrettas in my area. so choices are just plain limited. if you want a particular model you are gonna have to look nationwide and pay a premium.

this bike was just listed yesterday. realistic asking price I guess. at least compared to the ebay shenanigan. I am gonna message him and see if i can get a test ride. roughly similar to your offer. send me more info. i may really dig 8" wheel ride. i just dont know. the only shifty I have ridden was a bone stock 2005 px150.

I suspect that auction was staged on purpose. look at the auction bidder results. only two actual bidders. 8 from one and 1 final from second party. crafty suckers. I am on to you.

my best buy off ebay was a scarabeo 200. advertised as never ridden but no mileage given. starting and ending bid was 900. 300 to ship. arrived as new with .02 miles on the odo.

The thing about eBay is you get no read on the seller - do they know how to take care of these things, what is the history, etc. In a face to face you can figure out if the guy doesn’t know jack squat and make expectations of work likely based on that. Then you can make an educated offer.

That's very obviously the sellers burner account which he placed a reserve bid on 4 days before end of auction to get the one actual bidder to spend money, instead of just setting a reserve price in the auction from the start.

it was a no reserve auction. it takes two accounts participating in this scheme. since we know there arent two people on the planet that would pay 3500 for that bike , we can safely assume fake auction. with the purpose to artificially inflate its value. the next time auction is listed potential buyers look at completed listing and see what people have paid in the past. it can actually work if fake auction results are kept realistic .

when the highest bid is 200 and someone else bids 1000 the auction doesnt go to 1000. it goes to 210 or whatever the next highest bid increment is. it would only go to 1000 if the starting bid was 200 and the first bidder bid 990. the auction bid results are very clear

aug9 first bidder bids 900.
aug10 second bidder bids 3550 or higher. auction sits at $910 till aug14.
aug14 first bidder drives auction up bidding seven times in like 30 seconds.
second bidder wins at 3550.

it will be fun watching the relist.

I have been at that shop to buy another bike. The owner of that scooter brought it to the shop to get it worked on. The shop is an old fashioned all-brand shop, and not a dealer. I asked if it was for sale, and he shop owner told me that it was a nightmare to get it sorted out, and not for sale at the time, about a year ago. So, it appears to be there to be sold on consignment, now, as my bike was.
But, yes, it is only a mixed parts SEA scooter, with a dubious history.

living in tampa is preeeety frustrating as far as vespas are concerned. just checked craigslist tampa. there are 7 vespa bikes/parts ads. in susanville. there are 62 ads. as a result the asking prices are crackhead high as well.

In nyc they list a smallframe v90 for $9k. Ha!

You can find crazy prices everywhere if you are in a rush to buy.

I recently bought a '62 VBB. I have had my eye out for a p200e or PX150 for years but I live in the sticks. The closest I came was finding one at a shop in Florida on vacation. But at the time I didn't have the money for it and no way to get it home.

The VBB was an hour away so I got some cash, rounded up a friend with a truck and went for a look. I drove it up and down the gravel road he lived on but it's been 30 years so, I was wobbly. Owner got on it and went tearing up and down the road to show it off. It's rough, but complete. I am pretty good at welding and metal work but it won't require welding. No issues getting a registration and plate for it. Owner filled out all the forms I asked him too.

Being able to do an old school, try it out, shake hands, cash on the barrel and take it away kind of transaction close to home factors heavily into the time/money/ass ache equation for me.

Also I had an open mind on model...any large frame Vespa that was at least a 150. I also don't trust nice paint. I would rather have something battered and unmolested.

The red Allstate is listed again on eBay. I guess the 9 bids ending at $3550.00 was just too low.

what exactly makes the super desirable? it look like waaay to aggressive a project to me. I see 1500 in parts and a months worth of evenings and then you have a bike thats worth 2500 because its a runner. just seems like you have to pay money for the privilege of putting the hours in to get an old scoot back on the road...

Um. Yes?

Sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze. You gotta sweat and bleed and cuss at it. But ultimately it's yours and nobody else's.

Some are built. Some are bought.

Pays your money. Takes your chances.

Anyway, the MM tail light is dough, and if that's a legit script badge super those are few and far between.

It is true! You have to pay to play. In all honesty, $2500-3000; all-in after project purchase/parts/time/etc, is about right for a running riding SAFE road worthy vintage scooter.

If I was looking for a rider I would be pulling a trailer to Daytona right now. Yeah it's gonna be some coin and some work but not an unreasonable amount to get it to good safe condition. That makes it a pretty good deal!

After that you can pretty much put as much money into it as you want to just don't expect to get it back.
