There is the $3800US premium price being demanded because it has the Harley name on it.

This means what might be a decent product will be prevented from being competitive by the Harley stickers on the frame and the associated stupid price tag.

A friend of mine just purchased a similar looking Chinese e-bike from the local department store for 800 Canadian. It looks just about as good, rides nicely and goes like stink for what it is. He says the range and charging time are acceptable as well.

While I don’t expect it to last all that well you can buy a lot of them for the price of one of the Harley units.

Were I going to blow that kind of money on an e-bike I’d be looking at something from an established maker who has been at it for years.

Yamaha.

And they still cost about 25% less than the Harley.

The Verge writeup made them sound pretty fun.

Interesting to see Harley diversifying its brand (see also spinning off LiveWire). Then again, considering its brand represents something so polarizing, whose narrow audience is largely aging out of the market, it makes sense.

It's just a bike, nothing special about it. I like the integrated battery, it makes for a clean look. But a lot of companies have done that. And there's lots of reputable bike companies selling ebikes. I have a less expensive ebike ($2500) that has feature I consider essential but they aren't present on the HD. I'm not sure what the HD competitive edge is. I'm all for them pushing ebikes tho. I hope they sell some.

marketing. that's it. marketing. so now you can cruise around your HOA neighborhood or golf course on that instead of the HD branded golf cart.

I'm supposed to be their target demographic, an all I can say is "meh" it looks okay? but I'm not dropping that kinda dough for some bullshittery. that's another bike I can ride or cool project car territory. pass, thanks.

Right, it's marketing. Ducati and other vehicle brands also produce them (often with chinese or german technology)
