Low beam went out on my 2005 Stella. Turns out is has the older style headlight with the BA20D socket. If my FLAPS carried them, I'd just replace the incandescent bulb and be done with it, but they don't. Since I have to go mail-order anyway, might as well upgrade.

Yes, I did a search and found lots about replacing the whole headlight with one that uses an H4 halogen bulb, but I'm lazy and I'm cheap, so I don't really want to do that.

What I did not find was much about these halogen bulbs that plug right into the BA20D socket.

Says not to use them with plastic lenses, but I'm pretty sure my lens is glass.

Too good to be true?

I use one of the BA20D halogen bulbs in my 150 Super (12v). No problems with it after 2 years, and good and bright. It is blue and is described as 'super white Xenon', whatever that really means!!

Well, I tried the halogen bulb for the BA20D socket and it was a bust--literally. After about a week, the glass headlight lens fell out and broke on the pavement. Probably, the halogen bulb was hot enough to soften the adhesive holding the lens to the reflector. I say probaby because I mentioned this to Matt at Scooter Mercato and he said these Stella headlight lenses are notorious for falling out under their own weight anyway; so maybe it was a coincidence.

Anyway, that was Plan B.

Plan C was to get a replacement Euro style headlight unit with a conventional bulb, but Scooter Mercato has been out of those for months because of the pandemic and doesn't know when it might get more.

Which brings me to Plan D, which is to get a replacement halogen headlight unit. Matt explained that if I attach male connectors on the ends of the wires coming off the new unit, I will not have to cut into the stock wiring harness, so I think that will work out fine.
