"School of Stealth Riding"
Really fun stuff spreading on social media and youtube these days
External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

And a funny story:
Guy walked up to my KYMCO LIKE200i this morning, "That's a nice looking scooter. Italian, huh?"

I smiled, "The stickers are. The scooter is made in China."
"No wait! .....the stickers are made in China, too!"

He laughed.

I wish! 😊
First thing most of us Like owners did was peel off the Made in China sticker from the leg guard. Yeah, it's assembled in mainland China at a Kymco plant.
Nevertheless - in 8 yrs I've never questioned the build quality of this scooter (once the tires were tossed after 400 miles for a set of Michelins )

Vespa sold in Australasia, are assembled in Taiwan, but most of the parts are made in China..

I wonder what is actually left, made in Italy by Piaggio...

You are probably right, as the manual is in Vietnamese first and English second..

But the parts are definitely made in China.. I did post a picture somewhere in here not long ago...

I would draw a distinction between scooters built in China for Taiwanese companies, and scooters built in China for Chinese companies/brands.

The well-built Kymcos are good examples of the first, and there are lots of examples of the second, starting with the hapless TaoTaos. What remains to be seen is the quality and support of the machines Genuine is selling now that are Genuine-branded but built in China by Chinese companies.

Kymco and PGO of Taiwan make some of the best scooters in the world.

Better no, better than a few years ago yes.
The best scooters are Japanese and until recently the fight was between Kymko / Sym and the Italian brands, now the position is shifting in favor of scooters produced in Taiwan; let's face it, Vespa sells more for design but as can also be seen in Italy, there is an unfavorable relationship between the price (a little higher than a scooter with the same displacement) and the technology used (engine / frame).
The battle on high wheels goes in a different direction and scores points in favor of Honda Italia with the new SH 125/150/350 series which, although not integrated with smartphones such as the new Medley 125/155 and Beverly (BV) 300/400 , are preferred for their reliability, lower weight and better technical assistance.

Sorry but I don't get the point of this thread. The title doesn't make sense. What is usually heard on the forum is that if they can see you they will not hit you. even then I think the whole thing is erronious. I always see high visibility construction cones knocked over.

Big Wheels in the USA - there was a dry period after the early Kymco People left and the nice Honda SH came & went...which was filled in 2017 by the new "2018 Liberty 150 & 50".
During this period I bought my Liberty - as I'd always wanted to try a big wheel scooter.

Now KymcoUSA has brought in the new big wheel People 150i, with LEDs, twin discs, twin rear shocks, 4 valve aircooled engine....at $500 more than the Liberty (3V A/C, one disc, one shock) Both w/front ABS. Butt ugly compared to the Liberty, but.....

Many claim the Kymco parts dept. in the USA is in disarray - it is certainly true that getting a response from a Customer Representative is impossible these days. This was not true several years ago - parts were avail from a big national warehouse, and Customer Reps were helpful and quick to respond.

Fortunately Kymcos are nearly bullet proof, need little dealer attention and are easy to self service.....but not sure many of us would be comfortable laying out the big $ for the new, more complicated, 550. (maybe $11K OTD) Too many questions about parts and service back-up for such an advanced model in the USA. (recall the 700's a few yrs ago) But so few are coming they will likely find buyers.

It would be great if Honda would return with a scooter as simple to service as the Liberty.
Or if Piaggio would bring the slightly less attractive (compared to a Liberty) Medley here!
