Haven't been around here for quite awhile as I sold my Not So Modern PX200 quite some time ago. I've just moved to the dark side as I bought my first twist'n'go - an Aprilia SR MT 125. Basically a Piaggio Typhoon with bigger 14" wheels. I had never ridden an auto scoot before and gotta say it's pretty fun around town. Planning on doing all maintenance and repairs myself as I always did with the PX so I'm sure I'll be picking the brains of the experts here. Cheers. Bob

I love NSM scoots, but the allure of just simply twisting and going on modern seat & suspension is not lost on me as the years tick by and the bones get older

Welcome to the Darkside

Welcome back, and nice machine! The Typhoon DNA is there, but Aprillia really does know how to present a scooter.

Enjoy the ride!

No warranty. Don't want to go fast. I have my other bike for that. It's just a cheap workhorse. If I wanted to spend money I would have gotten another PX. Just want to keep it running but yeah it does go slower than most of the reviews I read said they go. I haven't inspected the state of the belt and rollers yet. Would new ones improve performance at all? It does handle pretty well though. I love the 14" wheels. Other observations: front brake is excellent, rear brake is pathetic. Foot well is a bit cramped and the bump on the seat makes it hard to slide back to stretch my legs. I reckon it would get uncomfortable on a long ride. I'm generally very happy with it and for the price I paid I can't complain at all.

So I gave the little Aprilia a little service. Changed the engine and transmission oils, new spark plug, cleaned the air filter, gave the brakes a clean and topped up fluid. The bolt that holds the rear brake lever in place had lost its nut and was in danger of getting lost itself. Was just hanging in there. Fixed that and the rear brake is so much better. It musn't have been actuating all the way. Removed the transmission cover. The drive belt looks like new. Gave the clutch bell a clean. I've ordered a variator holding tool to remove the variator to clean the pulleys and inspect the rollers. Was a good fun day's work. The scoot feels like it runs better but it's probably just my imagination. Loving this little scooter.

We don't get any of the piaggio 125s here except the typhoon, and all three of the people that bought one had them stolen, so I don't have specifics about making that engine faster but...
If someone here in the US talks about putting a Malossi big bore kit on an lx150 or et4, see if you can talk them out of the top end they replaced. About $40 for postage, three gaskets, maybe a set of rings, and that's probably the cheapest horsepower you will ever find for one of these engines.

I think my Aprilia SR 125 and Piaggio Typhoon and the Aprilia Sportcity are the same scooter with minor aesthetic differences. I'm not one to mess too much with the motor mainly because I don't know what I'm doing but also this scooter is just a workhorse and I want it to be reliable more than anything else. On my PX, I put on a better exhaust and up jetted the carby and that was enough for me.
