Hello everyone I'm having some issues with my MP3.
VIN number is : ZAPM479M9A5004040
About a year ago I went for a cruise up the mountain about 4000 FT in elevation. I stopped, put gas in, walked around the mini-mart, came back out and the bike would not start again and called for a tow truck. While waiting for about an hour I tried starting the bike again, one time it started and died immediately and after it was put on the tow truck it started and ran for about a minute or two. the next day I fired up the bike and it ran fine for about a year. Although once in a while when I rode I noticed it would stop about as fast as a blink of an eye But would continue to run just fine. Once in a while, while stopping at a red light and idling for a few minutes it would die, like the idle set too low but normally starts right back up. the other day as I was going to put fuel in it died at the stop sign but restarted immediately after I put fuel in on my way back home a few miles it stopped for as long as of blink of an eye but continue to run just fine until I came to a stop the bike died and I have not been able to restart it for several days.
When I turn the key on I can hear a solenoid engage but I don't know if I can hear the fuel pump. If I take out the spark plug and add a little bit of gas down the hole and put the spark plug back in it fires right up.
Also when it did start it would run really rough And gutless until it warmed up

Sound of fuel pump is missing. Which can mean that you need a new relay

I checked the fuses by the foot panel and the ones by the battery but I could not locate the the starter relay, i heard there was some there. I also swapped around the four relays under the windscreen and then I tried direct power to the fuel pump, I think. still no fuel.

If you're not getting the fuel pump to run when wired directly off the battery then the fuel pump is dead.

By the way, pic show pretty badly rusted battery connections.

Better clean that up. It is a Italian vehicle after all, the masters of electrical failures

Are you suggesting that could be the problem and I need to remove it? Thank you

Yes it could be. Either a compromised charcoal filter or a sticking rollover valve. The latter happened on my 250. Since the system is terribly engineered and doesn't really do anything I would remove it. At least you will have eliminated a cause and you get a little extra room in the boot.

Here is a wiki article I wrote back then on removal.

Understood, I'm on it.

Too bad. Worth a shot. At least you ruled that out. I am going to defer your fuel pump question to someone that has done it before on a 250. Good luck.
