Piaggio is only offering a tall windscreen with the previous 3 hole configuration. Any guestimates on how long it will be before the windscreen is updated by Piaggio with the new 4 hole layout?

Piaggio provides the black plastic mounting plate with the 3 hole configuration with purchase of the tall windscreen

Here is a old thread with the exact same question. It is a old wives tale that the windshield does not fit the newer hpe bikes.

My apology, I should have mentioned that I had seen the thread and knew that the three hole will work. I was only speculating if Piaggio would release it a 4 hole version.

I read that thread, I think they mentioned windshield extensions, but noone ever reported on there efficacy. [/i]

I tried a GIVI windshield extension.

Very expensive for what little it did. I returned it for a refund.

The Piaggio is taller and wider, something that little GIVI could not do.

Considering the price of the MP3, it is a shame they even removed the 3 setting adjustability of the windshield. For the kinda money they are asking nowadays for a MP3, they should be supplying a electrically adjustable windshield.

On the flip side, what I ain't got can't break. And that's a bonus with Italian vehicles.

Being tall is one thing, but does it vibrate at higher speeds?

I tried a Givi tall (taller than the stock MP3 screen) screen and it vibrated, hence my use of the tall Piaggio screen which has the 2 support rods that eliminates any and all vibration.

And for those that really need a tall screen there is always this. The only thing this contraption needs is a wiper. God, that brings back many BMW C1 memories ak.a. hideous a.k.a. fugly. Whoever keeps coming up with this design is either blind or needs to be stuffed in a tiny Euro shoebox car like a Smart.

If you're gonna ride this, please leave your dignity at home and just buy a car instead.

Somebody please explain what is the point and purpose of this.

I had purchased a givi tall, from an e-bay vendor in Italy which got stranded in customs in Milan forever, got my money back
I tried again from a Spanish vendor

I have no idea why I can't pick one up from the west coast givi warehouse which is a couple of miles away in Sparks? I don't care if I have to pay local dealer, Cycle Gear, Partszilla or something...
I just want to give someone $150 or there abouts & get an adult sized windshield, no $120 shipping, no back ordered as soon as I click the order, no lost without any follow up by vendor, no box the size of a bale of hay stuffed with air pillows :O nonsense

To be fair, I like the givi product once it actually arrives
The MP3 version may take a bit of shimming to get the angle just so & optimize the pocket of calm air
I'll probably add some lit handguards, to make lined gloves optional...

Never used, except for 1 test ride and came off again since I can't stand the vibration which messes with my vision.

This is my first season on any two wheeler, I purchased new in August. I have a Uncle who says he rode 100,000 miles on a Harley without a windscreen and feels the stock windscreen should be enough. My first helmet purchase was the Bell Broozer, I liked the price and removable chin bar, but the noise on the highway was unexpected.

My point was that I thought the main benefit of a windscreen would be temperature. Now I feel it's noise, because there will be more total riding hours of benefit. If I am correct the Piaggio tall windscreen has an additional 10 cm / 4 in. How much does that expand the envelope? I think I need an additional 12 inches to get over my head at 6'2". Perhaps a better/quieter helmet is an alternative solution at about the same cost?

FWIW, I am 6'3". The Piaggio tall windscreen is nearly 12 inches taller (overall height) than the stock windscreen AND is wider. Not only is your head protected from the rain & wind, so are your shoulders and hands.

FWIWW, helmets are all about aerodynamics and to this date the Schuberth C3 Pro is still the quietest and most comfortable bucket I have ever come across, even its successor the C4 Pro.

I will stick with the C3 Pro until a real successor arrives. Yeah I know, the Schuberth is kinda old, uncool, expensive and big. But like a Volvo, the day you crash it's the one you want.

I've had all kinds of buckets, and if there is one motorcycle item NOT to skimp it is the helmet.

It behaves well at high speeds. Does not vibrate when I drive for a long time at a speed of 130 km / h. It doesn't rain when I drive. This is the most beautiful

+1 on the Schuberth C3 Pro - best helmet I've ever had.


Oh, and for wind noise, you don't need a very tall windscreen. It's all about aerodynamics with windshields too.

I keep my Givi Airflow windscreen at its lowest setting - which is about 5cm below my line of sight, and it still pushes the wind over my head.

Funny thing is that the scoot had a very tall windscreen when I bought it, but the turbulence and noise with this screen was completely maddening - and it was extremely dangerous in the rain btw. (Picture below is the Givi Airflow at its lowest and still comfortable and silent setting:)

I'm not agree with you. For many years I have been using windshields that are higher than my head. Not only for MP3 but also for other motorcycles. It's good.

And once .... long ago .... I would agree with you. But then I started driving with a high windshield. I really liked it.

Mist or rain will impair your vision and you will have to not only clear your face shield but also your windscreen.
Insect mess.
You may miss objects in the road or other hazards looking through two pieces of plastic.
Sun glare. Especially if your windscreen gets dirt or dust on it.

Reasons why you should not be able to see over your windscreen:




Of course you can disagree but I have yet to see an argument for screens that you cannot see over that negates all of the negatives of looking through two pieces of plastic or glass.

I am with sticky on this. I have had 5 scooters and 3 motorcycles with windscreens. Two were tall before I cut them down to a mid-size and the rest have been selected for height as sticky described. Works best for me (and we get plenty of rain around here ).

I have a tall Fabbri windscreen on my 400 and have an open face 3/4 helmet.
This works good for me, especially with high wind and rain...total head protection, no buffeting.
Looking through the windscreen is no problem.
I initially had a medium screen when I first got the bike but found my head vibrating at highway speeds due to the wind impact.

Thinking you are downplaying a bit but whatever works for you. Curious about one thing you said. So when you are riding behind your tall windscreen you do not wear a face shield or other eye protection? That would be illegal in the US.

I am figuring that I need to order this windscreen to have it for spring. I am going with the OEM version of the taller version. Last question is where can I find the measurements of the stock and taller versions for comparison. I would like to mock up where the taller shield will end up.

I just got back from Italy I went to the Piaggio dealership and even gave them my 2010 Mp3 500 Vin number to make sure they gave me the correct one, but it doesn't fit. This is for the newer models, not mine. I spent 180 Euros plus 100 for the shipping for nothing. Not sure this answers your question but this one is 29" wide and 34" tall. If anybody is interested it's for sale.

a 2010 mp3 is called a Gilera Fuoco in Europe there are only 2 screens for them the OEM Gilera and the Givi 340d

A dealer can't do any thing with a Vin thats not registrated in The EU

Your problem was calling it a 2010 MP3 500 it isn't!!!! its a Gilera Fuoco Rebadged by Piaggio USA

The Vin # is issued when it comes out of the factory, not when it's registered and he asked me for it so. . .He also knew that the bike was here in the US. . .he should have caught on my mistake. I think he was just trying to sell me what they had knowing I would not be able to return it anyway.

It isn't in the EU Piaggio dealerDatabase!!! in the EU we have the same problem a Piaggio sold in Spain won't show up in the database of Piaggio BeNELux (BElgium/NEtherlands/LUxenbourg)

That also a problem for Customers that bought a mp3 from a Shop that isn't a dealer but imports them from France or Spain or Italy Piaggio BeNeLux won't warranty them directly the customer has to apply a request to the Piaggio dealer that innationly sold it in Spain or italy or.....

The Factory could have a worldwide database but some things aren't in there such as keys and immo codes thats why a dealer can only sell you a new ignationswitch and Throttlebody when you loose your keys they have no way to reprogram the throttlebody or find someone who can reprogram the ecu
