Today I stopped by my in-laws and picked up a 12lb brisket to throw on the smoker this evening for the first day of football. It didn't fit in the top case, but squeezed in under the seat. It was only a 10 minute ride and was still frozen, so I wasn't worried about it being in the pet carrier. What weird or unusual thing have you carried on your Vespa?

Ha...not far off. Found a local source of processed chicken, bought maybe 7 of them...maybe 6# each and took the LX150 the 8 or so miles over to pick them up. Can't remember details, but I had some in a duffle over the back of the seat. Full load, at least volume-wise.

The 4 foot curtain rod I picked up from Target last month was a bit of a logistical treat....

My mother's ashes from the funeral parlour. Thought it would be undignified to put her in the pet carrier, so she's on the curry hook.

Six 2.5-gallon empty gas cans. That REALLY turned heads!

Hydraulic floor jack.

A four-feet tall box full of aluminum cans and a milk crate full of newspapers. Hauled it all to the recycling center.

My metal detector and a shovel.

My wife. She's unusual because she still seems to like me after 36 years together.

I work in a pork processing plant so my hauling home meat is not unusual, we are occasionally given meat, the chicken, cuz the company does own chicken plants too, goes to neighbors or son, I am allergic to chicken, the beef and pork comes home. Last Wednesday I hauled home 14.1 lb of boneless pork tenders, natural, and pre-priced, we do have opportunities to order and buy, and 'freezer sales', so I entertained the crew while fastening down that box to the back of my Liberty Which was Not designed to haul freight, my LXV does that far better!

As a some-time Vespa fruit hauler, I've been chagrined to find that extended riding does not have a salubrious effect....too much bouncing around tends to bruise things like strawberries, raspberries, plums....I'm sure figs would be on the list. Crying or Very sad emoticon

oh... and 50 pounds of colour concentrate back when I worked in plastics.

the colour blender was on my way to work so I used to amuse their shippers by parking the 53 Triumph in their loading dock and filling the saddle bags with colourant.

It was a fine powder and I had a bag leak once, the back half of the bike and my jacket was bright blue for about a week... that stuff was a bitch to get off!

MP helmet and goggles got lots of funny looks in traffic, and the blackout mask on the headlamp used to get me pulled off by the police occasionally. It was legal so what could they do!

I'm glad to not need to carry much on my Vespa, but years ago carried my tool belt and Skilsaw to framing sites on a BSA Victor. One day I carried a bundle of 8 studs from the lumberyard under my arm and over the left grip. It would take off in third gear!

The transmission was separate but I don't think it was a Burman, I think Triumph were building their own. I think Burman were used on Arials or perhaps AMC products, AJS & Matchless... I'd need to look it up as it so long since I was involved with British stuff.

yes, Both Arials and Matchless/AJS had burman gearboxes.

When I had the motorcycle there was always a luggage rack fixed behind it, it was in tubes like the one on the Vespa and I often tied a plastic fruit box to it.
Inside I put the bag with the food shopping or other things like beach towels (when I could still go there ...) and a rifle bayonet that was used to cut the reeds (there are many on the beach of our Tyrrhenian sea) on which I fixed a cloth, using elastics made with an old inner tube, to protect myself from the sun.
Good times, you did a lot with little and I was much happier than today.

Bags of vermiculite from the feed store a couple of miles away, My "driveway" was a 1/3rd mile of hardpack, with some sand right at the gate
Sitting on the bag, required going from a squat of the floorboards
Riding on stilts
We were blowing the vermiculite into a crawlspace for insulation

Nope... military police. I had a proper MP's helmet as well, but it was hardly street legal.

I was once on my way to a bike event with all the military crap in place on the bike and the MP helmet on my noggin when I saw a buddy of mine out and about with his wife in his 48 MG.

What could I do except pull him over!

He though it was a laugh and pulled over immediately like I was actually the law, but his wife, who hadn't seen the Triumph with all the canvas on it and didn't recognize me with the goggles on was more than a bit freaked when I can flying up beside them and waved them over.

As we were on the main drag on a saturday morning, traffic slowed appreciably for a look as well.

Let's just say there've been more than a few "unusual" things I've toted on Melody, but for the moment only two items come to mind: A propane tank (brought an empty to replace, went home with a full tank; this was by way of my messenger bag on my back, BTW), the second being a new stereo receiver for my secondary hi-fi (COVID special) last year: bought it in Paramus on my way home (Best Buy, only store in the trip-state area that had one in stock), then took it on a rather interesting highway ride back to Asbury, tucked 'tween the knees. Entirely worth it. (But isn't that usually the case when you get back relatively unscathed?)
Carry one of these on your back a few miles in cold weather, and you too might call it "character-building."
