Good progress, for sure, and it's a bummer you're most likely not going to have it on the road for a few more months even if it's finished, but that's Wisconsin for ya.

I like that rack you have on the tunnel. Do you have a link for it?

I need to get something like that or even just some hold-down rings for my scoots, I just never think of it when I'm ordering stuff.

David carries pretty much the whole MRP line.
They are really nice products.

The specific item for the tunnel rack is https://www.scootermercato.com/Scooter-Parts/MRP/75400000

Have finalized the motor build with Matt at Scooter Mercato.
Original cases, Mazz 57mm crank, Malossi 210 rotary intake top end,
24/24 carb retaining oil injection, Polini venturi, Polini box pipe, 24 tooth clutch gear, SIP clutch and 36 tooth short 4th.
Should be a really nice motor for my needs.
Checked the gearing and should good for all the speed this 76 year old needs.
Barrel will be port matched to case and carb and air box will be matched to intake.

Had a phone conversation with Matt at Scooter Mercato yesterday about what he found when he opened the motor. Other than normal wear and some internal rust (had stuck piston when I got it, marvel mystery oil freed it up) it looked ok.
The selector box that couldn't seem to find a great was one he hadn't seen. Very thin casting, Indian markings, a ridge on the mounting surface.
The other major thing was the carb/carb box.
The 24/24 had a warped slide the carb will be replaced.
The carb box is a 20/20 box. It will be port matched to the intake and carb and the oil injection lever will be modified to allow it to open all the way.
Fortunately there are no issues with the bearing surfaces or the sealing pad.
All on all good news.
Interesting how things get modified over 44 years with different owners.
As I get some photos I'll post them.
In the mean time I have been sanding, priming and painting the surface rust areas on the bottom of the rear cowls and the edge of the tank.

Loom installed and cables fitted. So much easier than the smallframes.
Waiting on the new chassis grommets then things can be pulled into final position.
Two questions on fuel/oil line length.
The consensus on the fuel line is 24 inches overall. Can't seem to find a length for the oil line.
Thanks

Off the bench and on the floor. Headset fitted, cables all routed, new loom all in and pulled to all the places and all continuity tested.
Need to make all the connections after coating with dialectic grease.
Then on to the cables.
Really pleased at how she is coming along.

Thanks Kimono.
Since we don't have a garage I have a small 7'X12' shop space in the back of the basement.
Fortunately it's a walk out basement so I can put down drop cloths and roll things in and out across the the guest room area.
The upside is it's warm, well lighted and I have a utility sink to us.
In the warm seasons it converts from scooter shop to wood shop.
When we moved to Madison from the central part of the state we weren't sure how we would get by without a garage. We had 35 Acres, a 30X40 garage (unheated) a 40X40 pole barn, a 40X80 double level barn and a two story grainert.
Moving to a 10,000 sq ft city lot with no garage or shed was a real exercise in deciding what we really wanted to live with. Back up Dukes and Skippy are always on those back up pantry shelves.

Couldn't resist doing a mock up of the finished scooter.
Really pleased with how it looks.
Still some things to do while waiting for the motor.
Won't be on the road before late March early April when the spring rains wash away all the winter road salt.

That looks outstanding!

I was a little thrown off for a second by the lack of a glovebox. I'm so used to looking at my Sprint, GL, and VBB (and ignoring my Stella), that it looked "normal" to me, like I didn't notice it was missing, until I looked at the turn signals.

Which seat is that? it looks nice n' pointy at the front.

I ask because I have two different sport back seats, one is a TSR that Bitza (RIP) turned me on to, but can no longer find anywhere. The other is an Ancilotti that might look right on a P or Stella, but looks wrong on my Sprint (where it's currently living), even though it fits.

The TSR is narrower and definitely "pointier" at the front, whereas the Ancilotti has a broad, blunt front that's probably 3 or 4 inches wide. I suspect it may be more comfortable to ride on (it was a recent acquisition), but definitely not more comfortable to look at.

Seat is made by the "legendary" NISA which was revived by the children / family of the founders…

They do some quality stuff now and their whole Vespa inventory gets snatched by the German shops…

Ironically, because I couldn't follow that link without browsing the entire Scooter Center seat inventory, I think I found my beloved seat...The TSR Sport Seat for VBB/GL/Sprint/other-non-P-largeframes.

Naturally, it's out of stock, but at least I know where to find it.

I got the seat directly from Christiaan Foppen at PLC Corse. He is one of the operators of NISA. If you contact him thru the PLC website or via FB messenger he may be able to recommend a suitable seat from the NISA product line.
I particularly like the seat because it substitutes a strong magnet closure for the standard P latch.
The glove box is off because I'm waiting for the rubber boots that go over the front and rear indicators. The originals were rock hard and tore when removed.

Spend some time checking continuity on the loom and switches.
Everything was good.
Then it was time to energize each circuit and test them.
Tail and brake lights, indicators, headlight and horn all work.
Matt at Scooter Mercato helped me with powering up the headlight since with the split AC/DC system it was not obvious.
The purple and black wires at the motor end of the loom needed power.
Thanks to qascooter for the link to the electronic flasher to operate the LED bulbs I'm using in the indicators.

After the unpleasant surprise with the broken lower shock mount on the original motor case, the motor is back from Scooter Mercato.
New Malossi V-ONE rotary intake cases. All the parts moved over from the other motor. 57mm Mazz crank, Malossi 210 rotary intake barrel port matched, new 24,24 carb with box and carb matched to rotary intake.
Have some help coming this afternoon to help fit it into chassis.
Will have some decent weather over the weekend so should be road ready soon.
Well done to David and Matt

Cables all connected and adjusted. Shifts they all gears. Clutch action is very light. (SIP Cosa clutch)
T5 rear brake cable conversion is worth the effort if you have to pull your motor. Makes adjustment really simple. https://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/conversion-kit-brake-cable-rear-vespa-t5_J50015000
David at Scooter Mercato can get it for you.

What do you think about that Polini filter there?

Doesn't seem kosher getting dirty hot air to the filter in that manner, vs bellows-to-frame as a filter. Riding on dusty roads with bellows only hasn't been an issue in my anecdotal experiences. Carb box looks clean.

Before I roll it out I'll grease the exposed parts of the cables and shifter box.
I'm using the same SIP PFTE lined outers with stainless inners I have had on my 64 smallframe over the last 3 years and they are still as smooth as new.
The reality is at 77 I don't put a lot of miles on them. Just try to keep riding regularly.

Be careful what you apply to lined sheathing, get a Teflon lubricant that won't react and cause Teflon to swell up.
