I bought this seat for my new GTS300 SuperTech

https://www.vespa.com/gb_EN/accessories/vehicle-accessories/saddles/sport-saddle-black-kit-1b008521/

Trouble is, my Australian model has a pet carrier like the one pictured, which has wider ridges than the current Euro/US one I believe. The ridges are stopping the seat from closing. I figure I either cut the ridges back, or cut the plastic trim under the new seat so it fits, although I'm still not sure the seat will 100% fit. For the moment I've removed the bin and I'm riding around without it. Any thoughts?

Thinking about this a little more I think I'll leave my underseat case intact and try cutting the plastic trim of the new seat. If that doesn't work I might get an auto upholsterer to fit the padding and upholstery of the new seat onto the base of the stock seat.

Whoa there cowboy. First do a couple more searches on the sight here. Your problem might be easily solved with a couple washers under the lock mechanism. No cutting required.

Yes, I'd try a couple washers first. I had to to that when I installed the OEM crashbars per Robots video on installing the crash bars. . Inexpensive and easy fix to raise the latch height.

Interesting. To be a little more specific, the plastic trim on the bottom of the seat is hitting the side wall of the pet carrier. I'm not sure washers will solve the problem as the seat is sitting so high

Weird.
The stitching on the link in your first post come down under the rider's bum. In your photo it's well forward of that. Are you sure you received the correct seat?

Yes definitely the right seat. The AU pet carrier is the older shape to the Euro one. That's the issue. This is the Euro pet carrier.

I can, but I also have to buy the rear plastic surround that houses the fuel filler cap, as that's also a slightly different shape. Looking at a couple of hundred dollars by the time I get it all shipped.

The euro bucket probably won't fit because of the air intake snorkel we have on the Australian models (euro don't have this)

So what you are saying is that the "correct" seat you bought from Vespa doesn't fit your Australian model Vespa... What The? emoticon

By "correct" I mean the seat I bought matches the one they sent me. Phaskins was suggesting maybe I was sent the wrong seat. But it does seem odd that Vespa would make a GTS seat that isn't universal for every GTS the company currently builds

Put the little rubber plugs back in.
The bucket in your seat looks pretty much like the bucket in the pre-abs GTS. That seat should fit.

So for those following along at home I've had some success today. I cut the side skirts of the underside of the new seat back to better match the stock seat.

I also noticed the seat base at the fixing points at the front is different. It's just over 5mm deeper on the stock seat to allow for the snorkel Steelbytes pointed out. I added 5mm spacers to the fixings. For some reason too the stock seat has no opening for a rain cover, although there appears to be less space available to store it.

I can now close the seat with the pet carrier in, albeit not quite as neatly as the stock seat, and I have to push down on the rear to lock it, but it seems to be sitting fairly well and not rubbing on anything.

For anyone wondering why all the effort, the hump on the new seat is much less pronounced than the stock seat, and at 6'2" I tend to want to sit right on the hump, so it's more comfortable. Plus I like the look of the ribbed upholstery

You could remove the covers and foam and swap them onto each other's seat base. Then it will work perfectly.

Yeah that's an option I'll keep up my sleeve. I won't do that myself though so I'll get a quote from a motorcycle seat upholsterer
