Noticed a few drops of oil under my newly acquired 2016/12k km liberty 125cc euro4 version. The plastic cylinder bottom cover is all mucky with oil/dirt mixture so my first suspicion is either a blown head gasket or blown valve cover gasket (no service records of valve adjustment is present). The scooter drives ok - few drops per day. Dug under, removed a few parts and here is a picture (taken from underneath right side)...what do you think? the leaking oil/muck mysteriously stops exactly at the cylinder head cover gasket level...so which is it: valve or head gasket?

Are you sure its liquid cooled? If I were to guess I'd say valve cover gasket. I had to use a bit of grease to hold the gasket into place when re-installing the valve cover after checking the valves. I could see it getting pinched very easily causing a small leak.

Clean it as best as you can of all the grime and let it drip on some white paper. That will help you get a cleaner/clearer look at what is possibly leaking.

Thank you for your suggestion. Liberty 125cc from 2016 is air-cooled. Will def. look into the valve cover gasket as it is also the cheapest/easiest thing to tick off the list and also check clearances at the same time.

just to confirm I changed the head cover gasket and the side o-ring and the oil leak stopped. I chose not use the (red) sealant. Also did some valves adjustment while i was at it (slightly tight at 12.000km).
