My Father-in-law had knee replacement surgery done yesterday. Apparently, it was supposed to be repaired but was changed last minute to replacement.

Top half looks better than the bottom!

Glad it has been done for you Attila. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, & take the pain meds. You heal better with them. Trust me on that!

Plus if you are loaded up with pain meds your postings on MV might be even more entertaining!

At least the anxiety of waiting for the procedure is behind you, Atilla. Yes, now comes the rehab bit, but that's likely coming sooner than later, if my wife's experience (both hips, knees and shoulders) is any indication: the last few times under the knife, the had her using a walker within a day or two, and PT shortly thereafter. This might be different where you are, but hopefully it won't be a prolonged ordeal.

Keep us apprised, and keep on keepin' on!

MV... I often think of you, you are my big family around the world.

One big family, with quite a few of those "weird uncles." So happy to hear that it was a go this time and you are able to post here. The anticipation of getting it done is tough, but you know the road ahead and what it is going to take to recover. Do the work. You will find it all pays off down the road.

Two and a half years since my new hip, and I am in better physical condition than I had been for years before the replacement. For now, I feel your pain... but know there are better (much better) days ahead.

Who you calling "weird" just because I ride a Sportster with a sidecar and hang out on a Vespa forum how can that be considered weird? Just wish I could find a Sportster forum half as good as MV! Used to be one but that one died off, at least for me, when it switched to a Faceplant Group.

Compared to a catheter removal after a kidney stone operation?

Hmmmm...that is weird. In my family 👪they call me the funny uncle.

Always wondered about the "weird uncle" thing, but then again, I keep having to remind myself that I've been an uncle since before I hit my teens, which itself seemed weird.

Well coming at that from the opposite direction I have an uncle who when my older brother was born became an uncle at the age of 3 and 1/2! Then 17 moths later he became an uncle for at least the second time, actually think it was the third time, when I was born. Strange thing is he was so young and lived half the country away we both ended up with the same first and last names as my parents were not even thinking about him when I was born!

I will be transferred to the rehabilitation clinic tomorrow and will have to stay there for a month and a half. I'll go home for Christmas.

We are. And if you make here to SoCal I won't impose my crap ass red sauce on you. Steaks and grilled veggies. Or tacos. Dealers choice my dude.

Atilla, best of luck on your recovery. I know it's gonna be a long road but stick with it my dude. You HAVE to do the PT and you need to be mobile, just a little bit.

And then, on the other end? Riding and pizza!

Looks like a long month for you, but still, light at the end of the tunnel....so, perseverance!

I did my rehab at home. I was offered a rehab nursing home or in-my-home PT. I have the upper body strength to get myself around with a walker and a home that is all on one level.

I have experience with rehab nursing homes from when my Mother fell and broke her pelvis and when my wife's Mother fell and broke an arm and a leg on the same side (I had never thought about how debilitating that situation is). Both of these ladies needed nursing care above and beyond the physical therapy. Both made good progress and a full recovery. My Mother was mad when moved from the hospital to the nursing home - she hissed at me, "You put me here!" She needed 24 hour care and refused to participate in her own PT. I finally had to say, "Do the work or this is the last place you will be living. Don't do the work, and I'll go to your apartment to get some of your things to make this room more home-like, and I'll tell your apartment manager that I'll be moving your stuff out. OR - do the work and I'll get you back in your apartment (that I was paying for) as soon as they release you."

She did the work. When I got her back in her apartment, she was "better than before the fall."

Do the work. For the next 6 weeks, it's your full-time job. You have a bunch of scooter riders here pulling for you.

In Italy these rehabilitation clinics are private but in agreement with the National Health System. Today I will be transported by ambulance from the hospital where I was operated on to the rehabilitation clinic.

I was home the day after my left hip replacement and did my rehab and exercise from home. All I needed was a toilet raiser and a couple of crutches. I won't lie, sometimes I regretted having it done, the recovery was painful but after a few weeks I was back at work, getting stronger by the day. 2 years on and I'm so glad I had the chance to rid myself of pain.

It sounds like you are in expert hands Attila, good luck with the rehab.

All this talk about rehab makes me think about the one line out of this:

"Boy, have you rehabilitated yourself?"

Plus it kind of fits in with the time of year as the setting was Thanksgiving and the following days!

Attila, sounds like progress toward healing. Stick with the physical therapy. You will be glad you did. We all wish you well.

My Dad just had his hip replaced in May. I took him in on a Friday morning. Saturday they had him walking the halls and he came home that night.

They don't mess around here stateside. He couldn't drive for a month, so it was lots of visits with Dad. But that's not all bad.

Hope your recovery is uneventful.

May every day grant you increased strength to fully recover.
Recovery means you can ride again.

Don't let anything get in the way of riding again!
