Well, of course it rose in the past 4 years. They have only been available for about that long. It would actually be useful if they reported usage numbers along with the injury numbers. The article seems to sensationalize the obvious instead of provide some 'real' information.

OTOH, Traffic accidents involving runaway horses and people slipping on horseshit are way down in NYC compared to a century ago. Rickets, scurvy, consumption and ghosts are way down compared to two centuries ago. But accidents involving aotomobiles in NYC are a lot higher than they were in 1877, and forty years ago, there were no escoot accidents reported in NYC, even though millions of people live there.
By that token, a good reason to not live in NYC is that accidents involving Jetson flying cars might increase more rhan 1000% in the future. A better reason is that there will still be mimes.
Give people something that moves and a lot of them will find a way to crash it.

I think that Darwin may have had something to say about this.
