Speedometer and Odometer stopped working. I changed my headlight bulb recently and think speedo and Odometer may have stopped then..but not sure when they actually stopped.

I posted the cable...could it be the cut in cable that stopped both speed / odom?

I looked in side the headlight housing and found the Unattached connector, could that be the issue..if not what is that loose connector?

To my knowledge, that same "speedo" cable does in fact operate both the speedo and the odometer.

It's a mechanical cable that threads into the back of the dash - it's that knurled part in your second photo, and nothing to do with the unused electrical connector.

Almost certainly the broken sheath is also a broken cable inside, and causing your issues. Unfortunately, it's kind if a pain to replace!

I've had to do it twice on my LX. Pay attention to follow existing cable routing. I didn't, and I think I must have gotten the routing wrong and that's why mine don't last

Thanks for the info.. do you know what the loose wire is? Also, is it a pain to disconnect the cable at the wheel to check the gear that turns the speedo cable?
Thanks again

the inner cable probably broke. or possibly the drive pinion gave up the ghost.

doing the whole cable is a pain in all nine assholes, an inner isn't too bad, but I don't think anybody sells just an inner anymore and your outer looks like a whole bunch of butts. so, you can grab a complete cable (they're cheap) and just use the inner for now or tackle the whole job on a lazy Saturday.

however if it's just the pinion that's stripped? I'd yank it and slam a new one in there and roll. granted there's a whole bunch of preventive maintenance that should be TCB at the same time, but that can wait till later if you just wanna get rolling before riding season ends.

I've replaced this item on my Piaggio Fly and my Vespa GTS. Coincidentally, the original part failed just past 20k miles on both bikes.

Use the old cable to help fish the new one through the body work. On the old cable, cut off the upper connection the fits to the dash clocks. The end that attaches to the front wheel is smaller and is easier to fish through from the top, so tape it well to the end where you cut the original cable, and feed through to the bottom. You should remove the horncast panel as well. There might be zip ties or other fasteners that need to be undone to free the original cable.

On the GTS, I had to remove the screws holding the front fender in place to get a bit more room to feed the cable through. Not sure if you'll have that issue on the ET. A spot of lithium grease at each end will help before final attachment is completed. Be sure to redo any zip ties or plastic clips inside the bodywork to ensure your job is complete.

Good luck and let us know how you do!

The speedo cable is square, isn't it? could it be that the jacket is just crushed a bit and with a lucky counter squeeze you could round it out so the inner cable can spin freely?
