Last month we ordered a Subaru and they said we should have it by December. With the port back ups I am not so sure. I found this site that shows maritime traffic and it is quite amazing to see. Most of those green circles and arrows are containerships waiting to get in. The circles mean they are at anchor.

Fortunately Subaru uses Baltimore for most of its imports and while traffic there has increased it is nothing compared to SoCal. Fingers crossed we get the car before the first snow.

Interestingly enough, the Port of Portland has a large containor ship dock. For a period of time up to this Spring, it had no containor ship service at all. It now has one Korean containorship line calling once a week. Lots of unused capacity. I presume all this slowdown at some of the major containorship docks will push more shipping to ports such as Portland. Also interesting - the containorship port and rail line at Lazaro Cardenas was developed for the exact purpose of providing lower cost competition for the Southern California containorship ports. Wouldn't be surprised if Mexico pushes to expand capacity. You snooze, you lose.

So true. When I found out Subaru mainly uses Baltimore I looked them up. They have the sufficient 50 ft depth for large container ships and are actively trying to attract more traffic.

on that map you can filter out all the other ships like tankers and such and just see just the cargo green ships

Yeah when we ordered the Forester I was happy to hear that there was a plant in Fayetteville. Then I read that they don't do Foresters there only in Japan. I would be happy with the Outback but mrs stickyfrog is in love with the Forester so we have to wait.
