Need some help! I purchased the adavnced scooter workshop tool and was able to read the key data of my 2006 vespa gts 250ie, Was able to obtain the master key data, and then I purchased a VVDI key tool to program the chip with the id number. When I put the chip close to the ignition and tried to turn it on the red imosbilser light flashes twice and then remains solid. So please give me a hand if anyone knows about this. Thanks

Are you just trying to program a new key for your bike, or are you trying to do something else?

What chip were you trying to program? Normally, cloneable keys are one-piece, no separate chip. The Piaggio Master keys cannot have their chips cloned.

If you mean a new Piaggio master key - no chance. That chip is not cloneable. It's the ECU that has been programmed to the original keys. You could always send the ECU in to AF1 Racing to get it "virginised", or you should get a cloneable blank - a Fiat or Lancia dealer, or a very good locksmith should be able to help.

This feature might drive us all a bit crazy at times but it's part of the Piaggio smart technology that can actually reduce theft. At least among those who realize that scooter is only good for parts, you can't hack or Hotwire it and sell it with fake paperwork. Cuz there's No getting the darn thing running without a lot of taking apart and buying $$ parts and putting it back together. Which is why those master keys are so important to Not Loose! You can get a regular key cloned, Af-1 racing does it quickly and well. You can order a blank while you have that master and have a back up key or a key to use while that master stays put away safe and LABELED so you or our next of kin know what it goes to.

I question the value of the immobilizer after seeing that many stolen vespa get the writing harness destroyed by thieves. And I've seen a couple that were hit wired, so it is possible. Most non immobilizer scooters I've seen stolen are ridden until they run out of gas or wreck and then recovered. These are usually a lot cheaper to repair.

Thanks for all your great suggestions

I just have a few more quick questions I was able to purchase a tool that plugs into the ECU and I was able to read the key code data, my only question is it possible to put that data into a blank chip so I'm able to use it as a master key

Unless a member of this forum is a working locksmith, the odds are that a forum for locksmiths is going to be better able to help you. If you do figure it out on your own, that would be great. But if you can't, it probably makes more sense to talk to the experts.

I don't know if separate programmable chips exist - but suitable cloneable blanks (that you will have to get cut) certainly do.

As above, ask an experienced locksmith.
