Just another little tinker toy added to the pile. 1963 Gran Lusso. Found here locally in Oregon by an acquaintance of mine. They found it and called me out of the blue, brought it straight to my house to make a great deal. It pays to be kind, and build (genuine) relationships with people. A very pleasant surprise that made my weekend pretty great! I hope to be able to return the favor one day.

The scooter is solid, straight, and very complete. Older respray yellow over original white. Not too bad for a respray (mostly). Could be respectable with some cleanup, like removing paint from bolts I did a small test area of polished paint, turned out not too shabbychic.

Plan is to park it in the corner and not touch it one bit for a very long time; but stare at it thinking about what to do with this lovely machine for countless hours. Constantly being distracted by its ever looming presence overseeing every other project I work on.

Ahh really, I havn't touched a scooter in swiftly approaching 3 months. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness get in the way from time to time. Getting back into it now that all the good warm dry riding weather is gone. Perfect weather for building scooters

6'xxx or 16'xxx, hard to see

A connection has been made! A bond is growing and a journey begun.

But does the motor spin? Does it make spark? How does it run? Is it fast, handle well, brakes work good? Top speed? What kinda gas mileage does this beauty get?

Paint almost looks nice, well applied if a bit faded, so somebody loved this thing. How does it buff out? Pic, plz?

yes deetalez deetalez deetailz

Scoot came to Oregon from SoCal around/after 78. Sat in storage since then, 43 years.

Motor does not spin. Kicker moves a bit, but cyl&piston no movey. Could be rusted solid inside, as it was stored outside under a tarp. Need to peak inside cyl, give it the usual long slow soak; then go from there.

Rear hub & wheel spin free
Front hub & wheel spin free
Rear brake pedal frozen
Headset tubes both frozen.
* all of this should free up with little effort, its not bad.
Fuel tank is full of gunk and muck. Probably 100% rust free under all that oily-goop

Paint is an interesting one. The yellow is old paint, pre '78 based on last registration. Sprayed over the original white (how much of that white is still underneath is a gamble) Old and faded and carefully applied. Not a fully tear down paint job, as there is clear over spray; and things like the legshield trim and floor rails where simply taped off.

That being said,I like the yellow and the patina; its part of this individual scooters character and history. With some carefull attention and hand work; it'll clean up nice enuf for my Ratt Pakk

Thankfully the parts list is short, normal wear items not included of course.

Wow - what a fantastic addition! Like SoCalGuy, I'm excited to see how you're going bring this one back to life.

And something tells me it's just moved up on the project list!

Congratulations!

Just a tiny touch up on the paint

Left: wiped with a wet rag, Right: dry and dusty

Hand buffed center square(rectangle). Just 2mins with Mequires cleaner, then Mirror Glaze. So shineeee

What a great find! You have three days to look, think and admire that baby then exactly six months to get her ready for the Oregon 100. 😀😀😀😀😀

Six months it's more than enough time to redo a GL. You could do a bare metal teardown, repaint, and rebuild easily in that time, so long as you don't crash it and wind up in the ER along the way. In that case, you'll need eight months.

I'll have Bianca ready to roll in the Oregon100,
IF you have that GL ready to roll

What say you? Do you accept "The Challenge"?

Do Chris and I need to come down there and "*help out*"?

I'm hoping to be there again this next year at the Oregon 100. If I can make it, maybe I should see about riding my rusted out VB1 if I finish it in time?

Quick peak down cylinder with the endoscope. No holes, lots of carbon (good!) Now it soaks in oil waiting to be freed.

cheap endoscope does come in handy. Good for cylinders, tunnels, fuel tanks, etc.
