I have a 8pin regulator/rectifier from a ZIP

I suspect it is fried but would like to confirm before ordering a new one ...
any one know how to ??

I have tried with a voltmeter i Ohm mode measuring between

2 + 8 = nothing
2 + 6 = nothing
5 + 8 = nothing

6 + 8 = nothing

2+1 = ok

I am not sure however if there is supposed to be connection between those
or how else i test the rectifier/regulator

The first two tests shown in the tech memo are for the stator, to prove you have the right AC voltages. Then the third test shows if the regulator can charge the battery, and you also can check the turn indicator pulses are there.

That's about all you can do for tests - if just the first two are OK but not the rest, then the regulator should be considered faulty.

I don't know of any static tests that you can do with the regulator completely disconnected.

Outside of the circuit it's virtually untestable with any actionable data. As said above, in situ, the outputs can tell you something.

Thanks -

Yeah the stator test shows the right AC - and i have now replaced the regulator unfortunately with no luck.

Its so weird - when the regulator is in place i can measure 12v-14v AC on yellow wire+ground -

But still no DC on the blue/red wire that is going to feed all the DC services and charge the battery.

I am about to give up and just connect that yellow AC wire to a diodebridged rectifier and se if that will charge the battery ?

So it could be a problem in the stator windings - is there continuity? If so, that only proves it *might* be OK - for if there's just one shorted turn it'll produce sweet FA.
