A couple of years ago, I picked up a project - a 1966 Blue Badge Sprint. I did a thread on it titled: "An Unintentional Project". I won't bore you with the details, it's all on here if you want to know. Anyhow I ended up selling it not too long after I finished. A few weeks before I sold, Covid was hitting the area hard - jobs that I was supposed to work on were being shuttered, my wife's employer was cutting back on hours, and I was looking at a pretty hefty income tax bill. Tough times, but many were worse off then us, for sure. Then my wife went for her semi-annual exam and we found out her cancer had returned. We had been through this a few times before and luckily, it was caught very early this time. We also knew it was going to hurt financially, so I sold the scoot, some parts and gave away the rest. It did not really bother to me to sell at all, as I could only think of my wife and lost all interest in anything else. She went thru all the treatments and came out the other side and is doing fine now.
When I sold the Sprint, it went to a fella that contacted me a couple years before about his Stella, that was acting up. He had a side car on it, and it was obvious that the engine needed work. I did not get too involved but recommended Saints or Matt at Scooter Mercato. I helped him remove the engine, crate and ship it. When it came back, I helped a little more with the installation. Recently, I saw his sidecar rig at the local Lowes hardware as I was leaving, so I hung around until he came out. He invited me over to his house, and there I saw my old scoot again. I told I sure missed it. He then offered to sell it back to me. Lately, prices on bikes and scoots have gone thru the roof around here, so I mentioned I would not be able to afford what it was presently worth. He then offered to me for exactly what he paid me for it adding "I bought so it would stay local, so you could buy it back when you were able". And "you helped me when I needed it with the Stella". Needless to say, I was blown away by the offer and accepted providing he would hold it until I could scratch the coin together. Three weeks later, today I picked it up and it runs better than I remember. Maybe there is such a thing as Karma. Thanks for reading.

Great!!! GReat!! GREAT!!!

I remembered when you sold that scoot and thought you were $1k below the going rate. I'm so happy you got it back and this story made my day.

BTW, that powder coat looks good.

I'm not crying. I just have something in my eyes.

Seriously, though, the vintage vespa crowd are, for whatever reason, consistently some of the best and most pay-it-forward people you'll ever meet.

Gotta love it.

Thanks for all these kind words, but I really think it is all about people, like the seller in this case, that put other peoples wishes ahead of their own. As he said, he was just keeping it so I could buy it back again.

And the ride home with it, while only being about 5 miles, was the best I have had in years.

Great story, thanks for sharing. I do fully believe in karma, and paying it forward can never be a bad investment. As we can see, it can come back full circle; usually when least expected. Congratulations.

Aw, man... I just read this for the second time and teared up AGAIN! Best story ever, Tierney. It's a heartwarming tearjerker about the good in people, both yours and his. Glad to hear your brave wife is recovering nicely. And it was very touching to read that she was your top priority, not the scoot. You deserved that karma and more, I'm sure. Sniff.....

PS: what a gorgeous Sprint!

BTW, myself (and I'm sure all) are glad to hear you and your wife made it through a tough scary situation, piled on top of another heaping pile of a hot mess. Life is precious, glad you're all still around here to geek out about these old grocery getting oil spitters.

Man....I am so so stoked for you! You have been a contributor even sans-scooter. Now you have gone full circle connection with your scoot and back on 2-wheels. Congratulations and enjoy the ride!
