Yeah, we've had a LOT of rain lately!!! Including in the trunk of wifey's 2015 Golf Crying or Very sad emoticon
( Does that count? )

I had to drill a hole thru the bottom today to drain it Livid emoticon

You could try that or just fix where it gets in ; I'm told it's gonna be one of my tail lights.

There's no seal around the glovebox - of course some driving rain will get in! Just make sure any documents (insurance etc) are in zip-lock bags.

I had a USB cable in the glovebox of the New Beverly. It died in an overnight rainstorm.

It's not just the GTS…

Had this problem wherever I've lived when the rain really lets loose. Like others said, could probably find a way to improve the seal if you are motivated, or (in my case) just keep the docs in a sealed zip-lock

It's the design of the glovebox opening. The curve of the bodywork flows water right in. (Sorry, I've been watching too much "This Old House".)

My documents are in a zip-lock bag under the seat of the Beverly. The Beverly has at the right in the store room under the seat along the wall a dedicated holder for the documents.

It is for sure a valuable tip for everyone with a motorcycle to keep the documents in zip-lock bags.

I don't in the UK - there's no requirement to have them to hand, you just need to be able to produce them within 24hrs at a police station.

However, in the US (or at least in CA) it's mandatory to carry proof of registration, insurance certificate and driving licence at all times when driving in or on any vehicle.

In the scooter I carry the documents that are mandatory: insurance and registration.
In my wallet in my coat I carry my ID and my drivers license.

How do you mean you do not carry any?

See above - not necessary in some jurisdictions. e.g. The UK have never embraced the idea of compulsory immediate production of 'papers'. 1939 to 1952 excepted.

It's by design, unfortunately. I call it a design fault, to which many have jumped in Piaggio's defense in the past to tell me otherwise. I won't have a bar of it, I still stand for what I said.

If you look under the steering where the column goes into the round hole between the top of the leg shield and the glovebox, there is a substantially sized round opening there. When a Vespa is parked and locked outside in rain, the rain water flows from the top of the headlight down, with good amount of water seeping right into that hole.
The GT/GTS design allows for most of that trapped water to flow out thru the drain holes at the bottom of the leg shield, but on some bikes it leaks out of the glovebox too.

I initially wanted to close that hole somehow on my old 2014 GTS but was advised by the service center against that in an effort to aid evaporation of any remnants of rain water still 'locked' in between the leg shield and the glovebox.

OK, and what if you are stopped for an alcohol test and you do not carry any documents?

They'll already know the status of your driving licence, insurance, MOT and VED ("road tax"). Even the motorcycle cops get that information online. In the rare circumstance they're out of range of a signal, you'll get the old-fashioned 'producer' - produce your documents at a police station within 48 hours.

Here in New Zealand we don't carry any documents either on person or in the scooter glove box. Drivers licence is a small plastic card always in the wallet.
Warrant of fitness and registration detail is attached on the small tag behind the license plate or outside of it.

They made it easy for us. And as Jim mentioned above all the detail is now electronic and the authorities are able to check it in few seconds if need be.
