16 years ago today I purchased Rocket, my 2006 Vespa GT.

Since then we have traveled the country together.

The little scooter rolled past 100,000 miles this year and continues to provide great entertainment.

That purchase changed my life, as it has lead to many adventures and new friendships that will last forever.

I think I will keep it for a few more years.

And I thought my 2005 GT had a lot of miles at 10,461.

There are many with less mileage than yours.

I think they should be ridden.

Rocket's odometer will probably catch yours in a few years.

Currently reading 00830.

It would be sooner but I have other scooters that get ridden too.

Congrats! I wish I had the riding time to hit 100k on a scooter. Around the city I was riding daily for almost 20 years and didn't even rack up close to that across my vehicles in that time

Thank you, Oliver.

Rocket lead to the us joining the VCdM trips in 2016.

Those have been our four favorite vacations ever.

For the countries visited and friends made.

Rocket gets regular oil changes.

Belts get changed at 6000 to 9000 miles, depending on the big ride schedule.

Tires are changed out when they get worn.

Three front shocks. Two sets of rears.

Three steering head bearings.

The engine had a few issues, a damaged camshaft lobe and rocker arm at around 40,000 miles. The carburetor was replaces at 50,000.

It started throwing the variator nut at 65,000 miles, doing that three or four times.

Finally the spark plug blew out at 76,000 miles, stripping the threads in the head.

I had bought a 6000 mile engine in anticipation of it wearing out and had it installed then.

The new engine has been flawless over the last 24,000 miles.

The old engine sits in the garage, and might get rebuilt one day.

I have spent plenty of money on it over the years.

It has been worth it.

Rocket has been ridden hard. Long highway rides, Scooter Cannonball Run in 2014, wide open throttle for many of its miles.

It gets treated better now, and has never run better.

Excellent news Bill! And well done to you to for getting it there. How you look afters it makes a huge difference as to how many miles you get out of it. You just gotta love the GT bikes.

The highest mileage GT200 I've worked on over here was a 2004 model and had 82,000 miles on it. All original engine but for a new clutch, variator and water pump. That one went on to get to 89,000 miles before something went bang. The owner has dumped it in his garden and it's been there for over 3 years now and is overgrown. Shame.

Generally the GT/GTS bikes seem capable of huge mileages if looked after. It's not uncommon over here to see GTS250/300's with a genuine 90-100,000 miles on the clock without anything substantial being done to the motors other than replacement of consumables, which includes the above listed items. As you elude to, changing the oil regularly and also changing out the coolant every 2 years or so is important. But the main thing is to use the bike as much as you can. It makes them last. Thanks for posting Bill. A joyous occasion!

Bill,

I thought I had long miles on my 2007 Burgan 400 at 48,000. You definitely
ride more than I do. I seem to have confined my riding to group rides and
an occasional lope around the neighborhood and market.

Also, Frostbite Falls in no way compares to the year around riding in Florida.

Congrats,

Bob Copeland

Getting that toaster was easy.

100,000 miles on Rocket was nothing but fun for me.

I am not sure why everyone on here doesn't have one.

Me and melody had what you might call a lengthy hiatus this year, the gory details of which you've already read. Only back on the road since early October, but working on the miles, details forthcoming (with a technical question or two).

Congrats to you and Rocket! You're both a serious inspiration to me, and I'm certain many others.

As of tonight (rainy night in Jersey…no, doesn't have the same ring as Georgia).
