I have a question for GTS owners, and others with under seat storage. I like to carry a tire patch kit and a can of Fix A Flat as an emergency. I have them in a dry bag underneath the seat but I'm concerned that the temperature under the seat might be too hot for the aerosol can.

Am I overthinking this or am I riding around with a bomb 💣 under my seat ?

Thanks !

It's fine. Enjoy the riding, don't worry about it.

Yeah I don't think it is a worry but put a thermometer in there, go for a long ride, then see what the temp is and check the can to see if the store at temp is in relation to the actual temp.

It's definitely going to get warmer inside, but not that bad. My cat hasn't complained anyway.

My guess is that the highest temps are sitting outside on a hot day in Phoenix....but you'll get that in a lot of places without things blowing up....

What is inside that Fix-A-Flat cannister?

I guess it is a small amount of some sort of fluid sealant and a gas, probably nitrogen, under pressure of a few bars.

Is that correct?

That is correct, a few chemicals to seal a puncture and pressurized gas.

On the plus side, it keeps your takeaway meal warm on the way home.

What they claim on Fix a flat is that it is not flammable.
Then a risk on rupture is limited.

When temperature rises the pressure will also rise.
The relation between pressure and temperature is following the ideal gas law.
Pressure rises relative to absolute temperature, in Kelvin.

Assume the pressure in the cannister is 10bar at ambient temperature of 20°C, or 294K absolute temperature, and assuming these guys from Fix a flat did a good job and the safety factor is at least 3, meaning the cannister can handle 30bar,
then that pressure will be met at an absolute temperature of 882K, or 608°C.

That is a temperature the underseat storage will only meet when the scooter is in flames and you better run from it anyway.

On the minus side is the deep freeze stuff you bought.

Put that in a cooler bag in the top case.

Yes. Is a viable option. I have a top case on the Beverly and a cooler bag in the freezer.

A cooler bag with a strap sewed on a just the right height for the purse hook on a 2020 liberty
The bubble mylar insulation helps it keep shape
This bag will hold a couple of changes of cloths, but does keep me from tucking my knees in fully

I did exactly that with my PX for the first few weeks that I had it until I put a rack on it.

Some do not like a top case on their scooter, but I am a great fan.
My BV300 has the 36 liter original Piaggio top case and in my idea I get a lot more than 36 liter of stuff in it.

Under the seat
Pet Carrier is a local joke on this forum
There's a warning sticker telling you not to put your pet in the underseat storage

Top cases definitely detract from the looks of both scooters and motorcycles, but, they're are VERY useful, so, I do use them on many of my bikes, as they enable me to ride instead of drive the car for many different procurement trips.

I have a handbasket cable-tied to Sunny's rear frame.
Not the prettiest, but it works for me.

They are very useful indeed, and the person that drives the scooter has the benefit and no drawback: he does not see it and is not bothered at all.
