I am a big fan of the centerstand it is a much more stable way to park the bike. I have had them on most of my motorcycles. Nonetheless I like to have a side stand for when I have to park on the far shoulder of the road, uneven pavement, dirt, grass, etc. I also wanted it in the garage so I could position the dolly under the centerstand without holding the bike up.
I hesitated as I read all the horror stories and with the auto-retracting feature someone would bump into the scooter (me) and over it would go. So I looked up the sidestand hack on youtube.
I then looked under my scooter and realized I could use the existing threaded hole for the m6 bolt for the spring. This would put the base of the spring in front of the stand and it would stay down. As it is higher than the spring pivot it would stay up once retracted.
I followed Robots clear instructions and it was pretty easy.
I understand that there is no cutoff switch and I will have to be careful about making sure the stand is up before riding off. Same for bringing a plate with me for under the stand and ideally figuring out a way to lock the rear brake.
So far install went well, side stand stays open and closed. I still have to test it and see if I am comfortable but here are the photos.
Thanks to Motovista for the excellent customer service and great shipping rates to Canada.
