I have a 1985 motovespa P200E project on the go and wish to rewire the stator plate.

What size/type on wires should I be using and if special (heat resistant etc.) where to buy in UK?

Thanks.

stators are now officially the topic of the day.

Welcome.

Assuming you are talking about the wires from the coils to the junction box? Most of the online vespa shops make kits so you dont have to buy gobs of excees cable. check SIP, etc.

The only one that I've seen is the SIP one but I'm having trouble ordering on line as I can't put my postcode in on their site.

Was going to try phoning instead.

Haven't found any others that suit on the interweb so any advice on this would be great.

It appears that SC needs a minimum order amount before they will post to UK so I'm still looking.

Hi

Beedspeed rewired my Rally stator some time ago though, this was when Alan Beedham owned the business and they did a cracking job,

Scootronics is the place for stators now but I'm not sure he does Vespas.

Probably not much help, but good luck with it.

I've rewired a couple of stators. I ordered wire (18 gauge) and connectors off Amazon. Links to what I ordered below.

The wire: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011LVF6NW

Connectors: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FCFH84Q

Liquid Insulation: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QUOU50

I know you're in the UK, but this is at least a good starting point to find what you need. And a good soldering iron!

Show us pics when you get it all done!

Awesome.
I keep remembering to take photos only after I've finished doing something so my album is a bit sparse.
I'll try to remember to do before and after
shots.

18AWG wire is a small gauge, how much current is going through the coil wiring? 16 AWG is good for 10 amps.

We'll I was just doing the math if a single wire is carrying 100 watts or about 8 Amps. 18 awg in a length that short should be good for 10 amps also.

Wires ordered (16g) from UK supplier with sleeves and terminals.

Watch this space for further action!

Having rewired a few stators, my feeling is 16 gauge wire is overkill and too bulky. 18g is more than sufficient and much easier to work with.

OEM insulation fluid that was used on the original P/PX stator plates. Missing on 99% of "rebuilds" including the video that was posted above.

I bought 18GA silicone covered high temp multistrand copper "accessory" wire on Amazon, 5 colors in a box, 5 meters of each for about $15.

I recently re-wired a stator(5 wire) that had the wiring crumbling and the copper was oxidized. I purchased 5 individual rolls of 20' an 14 gage wiring on of each color(Blue, Black, white, red and green). Each one cost me $8.99 or so.

When it was time to solder the wires I realized the hard way that the wiring was a hair too thick. I ended up having to drill the holes on a couple of the stator pole coils which I did not enjoy doing. The stator works OK but I hate how it turned out. For now I will have this stator as a spare, it works but it looks tacky.

To make things worse I used the wrong type of RTV to isolate the solder points and it did not dried completely after 3 or 4 days so I am not sure if the heat will melt the RTV. Lessons learned...

Bummer scooterist.

I just rewired the 3rd or 4th from the list of supplies I posted above. It tested out on the bench so I'm fairly confident it'll be solid.

I've put a few more coats of liquid insulation on it since the pic
