A question for those in the know about the latest HPE models.

Here in Australia, we do not get the 300s in standard GTS or Touring models - we only get the Super Sport and Super Tech models. Both of those models come with the rear grab rail without the pre-drilled holes for the folding rear rack. I cannot find an OEM rear rack anywhere that has those holes pre-drilled - all the listings at SIP and other places state clearly "without drill holes".

I don't want a flat rack. I see Scooter West has a Faco one-piece but that does not look like it has the rear holes that the top box screws into. Am I missing something - what is the trick? I want to avoid drilling a round bar so that's not the answer I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance

When you install a folding rack you replace the existing grab rail.

This was the case when i purchased my Supertech in October 2019 and a folding rack.

An aftermarket brand rack won't be made with accommodating a Vespa brand top case in mind (especially since Vespa has changed their cases a few times). While anything's possible if you're determined enough, if you get a rack that's anything other than Vespa or Piaggio, you're generally going to need an aftermarket brand if you add a top case to it (with, of course, whatever mounting brackets/plates that go with it).

And yeah, it's implied that the original grab rail gets replaced if you add a rack on there. You'll need a regular GTS one. Manufacturers don't assume anyone's going to be drilling extra holes in accessories anymore.

Thank you. I may have not understood correctly when viewing some of Robot's videos where the install just shows the folding rack being bolted to what looked like the existing grab rail.

From what you are saying, if i order a genuine Piaggio folding rack, I'll get the rack and the grab rail to suit, and then replace what is on the bike.

Have I got that right? If so, that does clear it up for me - thank you.

the [new] grab rail and folding rack come already joined and iirc can't be separated (riveted not bolted together).

Thanks steelbytes - that was not clear to me before. Thanks for confirming, appreciated.
