I do all my own services on my Liberty now. No more hauling it to the dealer. When my wifes Spyder went in for service work they would plug the computer in and do updates as part of the service. If my Liberty had a flash update due how would I know? I did discover an Aprilia dealer near me and they swear that their Piaggio reader can read and update my Liberty.

I started getting a totally random stall when coming to a stop. Starts right back up. I have a few ideas as to why and ordered the parts to hopefully correct this anomaly. But I 'm not 100% sure that a update may be required, hence wondering how you would know if you do your own service work at home and don't have a snazzy Piaggio computer and their software updates.

I think your Aprilia dealer is right. I believe all Piaggio products are compatible with the PADS system (Piaggio Advanced Diagnostic System).

Thanks Dooglas. I recall them (local Aprilia dealer) saying PADS when I called them. I'll stop by and ask about the updates and follow this thread up when I find out. I was just trying to figure out if there is a way to actually see if something is needed update wise before I take it in. I get a good vibe from the dealer overall and they're in my general area.

You will need to find out which firmware you are running and what is the latest available for your model. But you need to plug yourself into the ecu to find out this info..

Robot has a video on the PADS software

Interesting video. The company I work for builds small engines for power tools, and our diagnostic system is called MDG. Forgot what it stands for. Everyone always complains about the Right To Repair but I have no issue paying someone if they know what their doing. The Aprilia shop quoted me $125 to hookup and read the fault, if any is found. That seems fair to me since its a brick and mortar with overhead and local, saving me a day wasted driving.

I did order around $300 in parts today for the Liberty. One item was a new air box since I jacked up mine. I still suspect the issue is being caused by the air box because of my fat fingers breaking it!

They will also update the firmware with the latest for your model, if any are available...

We normally charge $120 as it can take a good half an hour and we got to pay the annual fee for the software and updates...

Sometimes (more often than not) after clearing all the errors, you need to go for a test drive and plug the system on again to see which errors are persisting if any...

So yes, $125 is not asking too much...
