This thread will get filled in a bit more shortly: for the moment, let's just say I'm alive, mostly intact, and will be out if the ER shortly...and I have no idea what the hell hit me. No idea what shape Mel's in, either, but I'm assuming the worst.

Oof, not what I was expecting to read. Hope you're not too banged up, nor is Melody.

The Story So Far:

- Rushed to ER (Trauma Unit), had CAT scan done: quite sore, nothing broken.

- Was hit hard enough to have been momentarily unconscious, but no concussion. (Knocks on helmet.) Was likely hit from behind.

- Auto shop where Melody got towed to was closed when I was released, so I couldn't get a good look, but I have a sinking feeling she's toast. 'Course, I'm still intact (albeit with assorted aches/pains), so...

- More news in a few days. Thanks, everyone. And remember: "Toreador Pants" FTW.

Yeah. But, as I mentioned before, nothing broken, and the drugs they administered still seem to be keeping most of the pain at bay. And I'm resting in my own bed.

Probably won't be until Monday that I get to inspect Melody (or what's left of her).

I do hope you're doing okay so far, and my fingers are still intact enough to be crossing them that you'll make it home by Christmas.

Sorry to hear. Glad your body is OK but poor Melody! She was in surgery so long before and now she may be toast. Sad.

I'm glad you are ok. but I bet you are really sore this morning (been there). As far as the scoot goes, hope it's repairable, but if not, that's ok too, you can always get another. I just happy that you will recover.

HOLY SHIT! My one and only accident also happened within blocks of my house. Was just about to put my GTS away for the season but if you heal up and need a ride PM me and we can figure something out.

This is actually what I had to leave the ER in, since they had to cut me out of my clothes. (Except my riding jacket, which they decided to keep intact, in part because it's too tough to cut through...which of course was why I wore it.)

My cheap-but-just-sturdy-enough Bilt riding sneakers got pretty torn up, however...but they did their job, too.

I hope you heal quickly and I hope karma dogs whoever hit you.

That shows again that it doesn't matter what you ride, protective gear will always help.

Yep: I was wearing Joe Rocket's cheaper (lightly-armored, sorta) battery heated gloves. The gloves remained intact, but somehow I got badly skinned right there. I usually only wear them when I have the handlebar muffs on the bike, but once in a while I wear them for short hops in the cold. Will have to reassess that one for future riding; heated grips for whatever my future ride is?

This occurred to me late last night: we've had some debate here about which is safer in the event of a crash - MC or scooter? From my latest experience, I think the layout of scooters, and (possibly) Vespas in particular, might be safer in some instances: other than a light bruise to the left knee, I suffered zero injuries below the waistline, only above it; my RevIt! jacket's armor kept my back/shoulder injuries to a minimum, and my helmet…well, I'll be looking for my third HJC RPHA 70ST in a while, for saving my cranium yet again.

Thanks for the well-wishes: I'm pretty sore at the moment, but in a generally good mood…and likely in the process of taking back whatever I said about the GTS Supertech…

Luckily, the driver remained on the scene. I have no recollection of anything between seconds before the crash and the EMTs loading me into the ambulance. I'll have a busy day tomorrow with Asbury's Finest for a police report, then the yakking Gecko, and try and reconstruct whatever the hell happened, since the only thing I recall was making a turn on a green light. More news anon: time for more tea and Motrin.
