In my recent search for a Vespa project I ran into a guy who was selling a project P200 with a larger fuel tank. I asked what was the deal with the tank and I found out that it was a Cannonball project that did not happen. I was fully aware of the car version (but not the scoot run).

After spending too much time on the internet I got bit by a 2023 bug. So far the executive branch of my household is on board with this as by nature I need to chase something...might as well be 2023CB run.

Please tell me it is a bad idea and talk me out of it...

By all accounts I've heard from many riders who have done it, regardless of the hardships encountered, finishing a cannonball is a pinnacle experience. Have never heard anyone regret doing it. Go for it!

I crashed pretty badly on day 4 of this year's Cannonball, but had a great time and will be doing another (maybe 2023).

The '23 Cannonball is being devised to attract vintage scoots with shorter days and fewer of them (380 miles/day vs 450/day this year). So seems like it would be a good opportunity.

I've got a 1980 P200E I'm thinking of using for the event.

I did not. I had a lead on a S150 so that what's in my garage now. I had a P200 couple years back and got hit by a car...so decided to look at other models.

The S150 might make for an interesting Cannonball bike. Very reliable, plenty of aftermarket racks, other doo dads, and a few performance mods to kick it up a bit.

Feb31st rode one in 2018. I don't recall him doing any performance mods other than aux tank but I could be wrong.

223 will be number 4 for me.

Feb31st rode a 2016 Sprint 150 if my memory is correct. There were several 150's in 2021.

It is a great experience and I have no regrets about having done it in 2021. I am looking at 2023 and even my wife is considering it. Her mind was changed about it when she was meeting people in Bar Harbor and Manchester VT, seeing the camaraderie in the parking lots, following along remotely, getting random phone calls from gotmojo.

This summer I am planning some long rides and overnites for her to experience and make up her mind. In order to move forward with this, one of her christmas presents is a Garmin Zumo 396 so she can learn to follow a gps instead of just me.

The trade off is I have to commit to being a tourist and in her words, "not get crazy".

It is an adventure and you should do it! Get onto the scooter cannonball forum for more info.

She saw me riding past her several times on Day 1 and I'm sure that cemented her opinion of going "Tourist Mode"

You are correct. S - Sprint both called 150s though the Sprint is a bit peppier.

The only reason it stuck in my mind was I have the exact same scooter, color and all, as Dave. Still have it and it was totaled by insurance company for slow speed hit in cowl when someone backed into me. But bought it back and still riding it. The silver lining was the insurance settlement enabled me to purchase two 2006 GTS250's with 300 miles on them. One of those carried me from Bar Harbor to Eureka!

I know Cannonball is a crazy event, but damn! Half that distance is probably farther then I've ever ridden an HPE in one day, and I've spent something like 75 days touring in the last 14 months (plus plenty of California daytrips).
