I keep seeing this advert when using FB. I don't own a soldering iron and thought it might be useful for future wiring mods. My GTS is kept in a garage too remote from my house to operate a mains soldering iron.

Anyone own one and think it is a good purchase?

This fifteen watt iron should be just enough to solder small wires to small connectors. You want to make sure you are out of the wind. A warm day helps.

Cheers,
Bob

That'd be excellent for small SMD jobs. For larger stuff, I use a butane soldering iron, e.g.:

That looks like a good iron. I have a similar one from Radio Shack. But, also I learned a secret from watching an electrician, a screwdriver heated with a propane torch can make a good soldering iron too.

The butane ones work well, but you need to be mindful of the exhaust direction.

That website looks kinds sketchy.

I soldered a Triumph Trident capacitor with a Bic lighter on the roadside. My thumb eventually healed. Crying or Very sad emoticon
