I have the original piaggio folding rack and the vespa titanium topcase.
I admit they look swell!!!

I got a good deal on it used in mint condition but it was still very expensive. (400 cdn) (here new it is 800-900 from the dealer, about 565 from SIP)

However I am not so happy with the top case, it feels kind of flimsy and scratches very easily.
I also am not so crazy about the locking mechanism and the fact that it does not come off the bike easily.

I am more used to travelling with givi type cases.
I will put the vespa case aside for later or put it up for sale. I can get a decent price for the case alone or with the original rack,
Or it is a big plus of an ad on if -when I ever decide to sell the scooter.

I purchased a small shad case for local riding (sh29) and a large givi topcase (for my long distance summer project)
I can probably find a way to put the givi plate on the folding rack. I have seen a few here in photos. If someone has a good way to attach it in a solid manner I am very interested.

I also saw the givi plate bolted to the non folding luggage rack (photo of FA italia) as well as the givi sr131 and the shad topmaster and am thinking these might be as good or better?

Anybody with experience with a rack that is sturdy and easier to bolt the plate onto?? or am I better to just go ahead and bolt it on the piaggio rack. (use what you have)

By using the OEM mount (in your third picture) I was able to use my old Tiger Box (made by Givi anyway)..

I put a Givi case on my GTV, which also came with the standard folding rear rack.

I reversed the position of the springs on the rack, so its "default" position was open. The rack was still liable to bounce when hitting bumps, so I secured it open with some clamps on the bars. Then I installed the Givi mounting plate to the rack, and that was that. It worked great.

I also had it custom painted, and stuck an LXV backrest pad on it.

Thanks!

I no longer have that bike, but I'll see if I can find any photos of when I installed the case.

I have the GIVI V47 Monokey topcase on my GTS with the folding aluminum rack. The suggested plate adapter is the e-251

Hi I have the plate, and the topcase. Do you have a photo of the bottom of the vespa rack where the plate attaches ?

I don't have a picture of the underside right now, but all I did was to drill six 4mm holes and then adapt the OEM Triumph Tiger mount to the drilled OEM Vespa rear rack..

I marked in Yellow where I drilled the holes. You can use this system to attach virtually anything you like.. You can also make a plate/jig to fit between the top box and the OEM Vespa rack, so to take bigger top box if you need it...

What ever you use, it will have to be adapted to the existing OEM frame...

The Vespa Folding rack will accommodate the Givi mounting plate very easily. I had a Givi V46 on my GTS for many years and 30K miles with zero issues. Well built bit of kit.

Fuel bottle is 4" hose clamps. Here's a pic of mine with a Givi case and base.

Just as wbvt shows above, pretty easy to mount under the rack so it's out of the way.

Also, just for the record, this is the correct way to mount the saddle clamps that hold the top box. In the picture below, they are clearly not, mounted properly. You can also see several scratches on the SS tubing. Perhaps the box is installed and removed on a regular basis, but still...

You're correct. I'll need to fix that in the spring. Thanks for pointing it out.

I have the GIVI SR 131 rack on my GTS and I highly recommend it. I never liked the stock folding rack, useless in my opinion.

I previously said I was going to wait for spring to correct the brackets on my Givi top case mounting plate. It was killing me, I couldn't wait. I removed and relocated the brackets to the correct positions. Can't believe how long it's been improperly mounted! Thanks to Burt for noticing & WBDVT for posting photo.
