I recently popped to the local bike shop to pick up some oil as it's about time I top the scooter up turns out I picked up the 7100 4T 5W-40 Motul instead of the scooter power 4T 5W-40 oil will this have a massive difference or is it simply a branding thing as both have near identical specs as far as I'm aware. Thanks

Argh, an oil thread. Well, I'll do my best. The Piaggio spec for the Primavera (as you likely know) is "5W-40 Synthetic based lubricant for high-performance four-stroke engines. JASO MA, MA2 - API SL - ACEA A3".
Sounds like either oil you mention will meet the spec. I keep some of the same oil used for the latest oil change available for top ups when needed. Seems to me there is a possibility of incompatible additives when mixing brands, but that may be overly cautious. As both oils you mention are made by Motul, that is probably not much of a concern in this case. |

As Dooglas says...it's fine to use either oil. Incompatibility between brands is not really a problem anyway. You can even mix differing types of oils these days (but not recommended). For example dino oil will mix with nearly all fully synthetic oils but the dino oil can, depending on how much dino oil you add, considerably lower the performance of a fully synthetic oil if you do that. The main thing to do is stick to a motorcycle oil as they provide by far the very best protection for your bike. But in your case, you're good to go. Enjoy!

Scooter power is MB rated for engines with no wet clutch. 7100 is rated MA for engines with wet clutch.
As your scoot has a dry clutch, using 7100 for top-up will not do any harm. MB rated oil has more friction modifier additives than MA but bikes with wet clutches run tens of thousands of kms on MA oil with no adverse effects. |

Ok. You won't be able to sleep, knowing that there is an oil thread here, with plenty of frictions and resistance involved... |
