So here is the problem. I recently swapped the front brakes on my P200E and my Sprint Veloce. I put the same brakes on both (Newpren slotted). The P200E brakes very well but the Sprint Veloce front brake is worse than before.

I cleaned everything twice, I adjusted the cable brake linkage, hand sanded the drum twice. The lever feels spongy, if I squeeze the brake lever I will touch the handle bar yet the scooter keeps rolling and requires lots of space to come to a dead stop.

All the hardware is secure well (circles, metal clips). The brake cable and outer also got replaced. The brake lobe that pushes the two brakes shoes moves but not a whole lot even when the brake lever is fully depressed at the handle bar.

What else should I check? did I missed anything. Maybe my drum is excessively worn out? Any feedback is great appreciated.

Hi

Take the leading edges off the shoes and see if that helps.

Good luck

Thanks for the help. The problem got resolved. The outer cable was stuck outside of the intended groove at the wheel hub causing it to be off by 1/3 of an inch enough to throwing off the brake lever alignment.

Everything is back working , brake lever works much firmer at the handle bar and brake feel is hard now. Sorry for the post, I didn't see this coming, I overlooked the outer cable and focused too much on the rest. Moderator feel free to delete if you feel necessary.

No. These follow-ups are the most useful. The trick is to remember them when you need them.
Glad you got it figured out.

^^ Good point. I was minutes away from ordering a new drum/hub from scooter-speed. I even thought that it was normal that the scooter being 50 years old perhaps the drum was worn out. My next thing was too look into the horizontal lobe/lever that runs from the outside to the hub to the brake shoes, I was going to clean it and degrease it. I also thought of a bad static spring outside of the hub where the cable moves the brake lever.

I was also going to say that the drum could be worn ( larger diameter) and the contact patch is too small but the spongy lever said cable. It's always obvious when you find it.
