Wondering if anyone has seen or experienced what this picture shows? Wheel feels tight though when I grab and shake. Red arrow points to what I noticed. The other side is completely normal just not where the red arrows point to.

Anyone ever see this or knows if this is an easy fix?

Are you sure the backing plate isn't just bent a little? The line of the hub looks right.

If so, I'd just wait until the next time I had the rear wheel off to worry about it, or you can probably knock it mostly back into shape in place, too.

you are looking at the dust plate held on by three small screws behind hub.its thin metal and must be bent a bit....unless you are OCD ignore it...otherwise strip the wheel down...hammer the plate flat on a bench....maybe able to do it in place???

I'd file that under: "ignore and ride". Cross reference: "maybe next time".

So that's two votes for "choose violence with it in place" and three votes for "meh. Deal with it later."

if the hub moves freely and brakes engage properly then file under "meh, worry about it later" but make a note to buy a chromed one to install when it's all apart.

You guys got no love for shiny bling. But what if it's not a chrome aftermarket part, but an OEM part that has been chromed?...

That's even worse as you've more or less destroyed a nice original part.🤨

Shiny, nothing wrong with a bit of chrome. Easy to clean and doesn't chip as easy.

Oh...umm...that's not MY backing plate. I merely photoshopped my hand holding a chromed original part...

In that case, we'll make an exception, but only because you have "chrome" in your username.

I'm with you on this. Why not save a busted, rusted, straight for the junkyard, original part??

These were crap before. I had them chromed…

Wonder if you could chrome the outside of engine case halves? Would be easier to clean.

About 17 years ago I had my SIP rear disc brake kit chrome plated (and then it sat on my shelf since). It looked really shiny. About a week ago I finally brought that disc kit over to my machine shop guy so that he could true it up. Apparently the chrome plating screwed a bunch of stuff up, and I got a mild tongue lashing from my machinist...twice! It's better to polish aluminum than chrome it.

You can spend hours and hours polishing the aluminum to make look like snazzy chrome.
