Friendly banter aside, Vespa marketing has an interesting 'multi-channel' strategy', which even seems to work.

A key part is being an Italian fashion and design icon.

With this, there is the strong 'luxury product' angle, see Exhibits Dior, 946...

Lately, and quite smartly, they've dug out the origins of an economical city vehicle and took an environmental viewpoint in too - a premium eco product with a matching price tag.

Interestingly, this all blends surprisingly well with the retro aspect - mayby because a 50's Vespa was already marketed as a style icon, so there is no stark congrast in it being 'old fashioned' and 'fashionable' at the same time.

I can only assume this Bieber character is an example of a trendy youngster today. If so, fits well into their strategy.

I think "hate" is a bit strong don't you? Seems more like skepticism to me. They don't mean the same thing. I hate that "hate" seems to be overused and used inappropriately these days.

I don't think it will have much of an effect in the US on the younger market but he is an international star with a certain demographic and in markets where scooters are more thought of as transportation and not weekend toys it may have a positive effect.

Hasselhoff is doing a lot lately. Someone should ring him.

If it gets someone who never considered a scooter to try, and hopefully buy, a scooter then all the power to Piaggio for this tie-in. Scooters are already a strange little niche market as it is.

It's the the modern lack of direct communication. Nobody is there to look at you like you're an idiot when you say you hate the color blue, air or drinking water. Anything and everything unpleasant is "the worst (experience, relationship, taco, beekeeper suit, etc,) I've ever had in my life." Traditional hatred is an active form of thinking. Online, it's the go-to for any degree of dislike. According to an article in the Telegraph, the average teenager in the UK uses 800 different words a day to communicate. I would hazard a guess that the number in the US is probably similar. So a word like hate does a lot of heavy lifting.
The internet's very existence has pretty well debunked the theory that a million monkeys with a million typewriters would eventually recreate the complete works of Shakespeare. My concern is that we as a species appear to be moving towards an image based form of communication that doesn't require a great degree of literacy but does require high technology. Communication by emoji eliminates precision and the ability to express abstract thoughts.

Now a Bieber Edition? My money is on more decals and Bluetooth speakers.

Honestly, the GTVis the only modern Vespa that offers a different variant with tangible differences.
Leather seats (two), Chrome rims (price them $$),Fender headlight
Naked handlebars, compact gages… No I don't own one.

If attaching a celebrity name to the brand to boost sales is the direction, I'll wait for the KISS version to arrive!

I like the idea of Vespa investing in marketing to grow their brand. I'd love for the market to grow, get more people interested in owning a Vespa.

i like vespa more than i dislike beebs. so ill reserve judgement with admitted a little bit of throw up in my mouth for release. lets hope its good

I look at it this way: my go-to jeans are Levi's (502s, to be exact), and I literally don't care about any of the numerous tie-ins they've had over the years, most recently involving the "other" Justin (Timberlake), whom I regard in marginally higher esteem than poor Mr. Beiber. The sun will continue to rise over Pontedera, I'm certain.

I don't think it will be much different than the Dior or Burberry collaboration. Its just a marketing thing for North America I'm sure. I just got back from EIMCA & Milan and Vespa is still super traditional with a side of electricfication.

I recommend a japanese scooter, it won't be the ultimate in style but you will be bored due to the reliability and lack of custom accessories and pairings with famous people.
Oh but I forgot, you can always keep the Vespa as an art object.
